OCAD licensing revisited
Consulting the wisdom of Nopesport please. Back in 2007, the impact of restrictive OCAD licensing was discussed here. 8 years on, how have clubs with multiple mappers managed the issues?

Re: OCAD licensing revisited
It just so happens that OCAD 9 without service updates doesn't use the activation mechanism that prevents multiple installations...
... not that I'm suggesting a club would do so of course. But by coincidence, we've never felt the need to upgrade from OCAD 9.
Open Orienteering Mapper is surely the future.

This would suggest that your club is breaking the T+Cs of the s/w - if so then it might not be a great idea to advertise this on a public forum.
I have heard it suggested that if you have one copy on a laptop and that laptop is used for club mapping then it can be used by more than one person. This would ensure that there was only 1 copy installed and 2 people couldn't use it at once. Whether this is "single user" you'd have to check with OCAD.
Since the previous licensing discussion linked to above, the following OCAD offerings have made things a little (and I mean a little) better:
* OCAD CS for setting courses, I think you can hide symbols too so good for planning training events
* OCAD Starter - up to 10,000 objects and 5 background maps so probably sufficient for most smaller events.
The latter is 180 CHF or 675 CHF for 5 copies which isn't cheap - but it nowhere near as expensive as the standard which is 580 for single user.

No, I simply meant that OCAD9 still meets all our mapper's (nb singular) needs and our course planners much prefer CONDES or PurplePen to OCAD's planning module anyway.

Ah OK. Their licensing does mean that some clubs have more pressure on one or two mappers, but then it stops everyone fiddling with the maps when it is their turn to plan and things aren't right.
I prefer the latest Condes for planning too.

Re: OCAD licensing revisited
My reading of the OCAD licence is that I am allowed to have it on a desk top machine and a laptop. Works for me (but then there's only one of me to use the programme )
PS OCAD are very good at allowing the programme to be loaded onto a replacement computer.

So says "Big Jean" Michel Jarre with his multi-keyboard skills.
