Not sure it would precipitate any split or require separate insurance. All that would happen is that those people who competed at the owning-club's event would be declared non-comp at the commercially run one.
If I was the organiser of the 'commercial' championships I would negotiate with the landowner a deal which included a clause stating "No other orienteering event will be permitted on the area for 2(?) years before the event". That would stop the local club messing things up!
