Pillars of wisdom
Perhaps I've missed it, but although there is a mapping symbol in the ISSOM symbol set (a small black square) for a pillar, there doesn't seem to be an IOF control description for the same. So if you want a control on a concrete or metal pillar holding up an office block or a bridge, and you want the descriptions to be symbols rather than text, how do you present this?

As a Special Feature (6.1 or 6.2).
IOF Control Descriptions
Martin Ward, SYO (Chair) & SPOOK.

Re: Pillars of wisdom
In the past, we as a club have used both the 'Special Item' symbols and the 'Rock Pillar' symbol (ISOM 202) for such a control site.
The IOF Map Commission met in Frankfurt the other weekend to discuss updates to ISSOM amongst other things: maybe they will have found a suggestion for your problem?

We are doing bridges for the Scottish 6 Days but using gabion baskets instead of a pillar

Re: Pillars of wisdom
Jimi Heselden had the bright idea of lining gabion baskets with material to make them easier to fill and hence invented the Hesco Bastion. Sadly he drove a Segway off a cliff after buying the Segway company.
