I am wondering if anyone knows the answer to this: I've been looking at the information and I an unsure if we have to visit the event centre (at Jesolo Lido) or if whatever we have to do there (collect race numbers, hand in medical certificates, etc.) is possible at the first race venue instead.
It is quite a trek out to this place and I'd like to avoid a unnecessary trip!

info@orivenezia.it
email these guys and they can tell you for sure.
There is no more info in Italian than there is in English and final details often come out in the last 48 hours.

I am taking from this page
http://www.orivenezia.it/information/event-centre
that the event centre moves to each race site and am assuming race info can be collected there....

Why did I do that...

I wondered that too. I've emailed them tonight about it. I see there is a 30 minute limit on the sprints and 60 minutes on the middle. I hope I don't make a big mistake!

The answer I got via their Facebook page is that race numbers will be available at the race arena, so no need to go to Jesolo Lido first.

Same answer via email. Now I just have to work out how to get to Ca Savio!

Was it any good?
It seemed a lot more complex this year than previously (and more expensive) so would you do it again?

Yes.
The Ca' Savio sprint was fine, the Burrano sprint was great (and a great chance to visit the island that I'd not considered visiting previously) and the Venice race itself was brilliant fun, especially for the longer courses who got to cross the Grand Canal. I guess it's understandable given what's happened before that more of the courses were in the Eastern part than previously, but it was still great, and having it as a middle race added the pressure of running harder.
We stayed in Venice itself and the travel to the 2 sprint races wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had anticipated. The only (very minor) issues we had were getting cold waiting in the download queue (why have only 1 download station?!) at 10pm (at least it was dry!!) and the spread of start times for the night race where they had start time blocks for age groups with our 2 W14s starting at gone 9.30pm (why start juniors off so late when the starts are from 8pm?).
I took 7 Venice race newbies out with me who all had the biggest grins all weekend and are already talking about next year.

Re: VENICE 2015
It was our first Venice event and we really enjoyed it. Venice in the dark was excellent. The sprints were good too, especially Burano. Having to queue for 40 minutes at Ca Savio to pick up race bibs was not so good not was having to queue to download at both Ca Savio and Venice.
We stayed at the Hilton on Giudecca. After we had booked it the event suggested staying on the mainland so we could easily reach the event transport. I was a bit worried about where we were staying but the reality was public transport in Venice is incredibly easy. It did mean that we didn't make use of the event transport which we had paid for or make it to the pasta party as we didn't want to hang around on the mainland for that long.
Venice is a lovely city and perfect for a combined city/orienteering break and we really enjoyed the races.

Good to hear it was fun.
Bit strange about the download queue as they used to have 4,000 people and I can't ever remember queuing. Hopefully they'll figure that out for next year.
