Missed Jo Sepherd out. I'm sure there are others one should be looking out for too. Surely no skin off anyone's nose for this list to be a bit larger. I'm also susprised some athletes on this list aren't in the talent squad. "Big Up!" to Zoe in the Performances Squad!

I think quite a lot of them were offered the chance but decided it wasn't worth the money they were being asked for. Something in the region of £500 as I understand it.

Re: The "Watch Squad"
No. In theory I would like to race for GB in 2015 and 2016 at least but we will have to see how things unfold. I have opted out of being part of the GB squad for now. I had some problem with the team dynamic in Italy which I have not yet been able to resolve. I experienced a lot of stress and negative distraction. I still feel really sad about the situation and hope things will be calmer and more positive in the future. For the time being it is better for me to take a step back and make the most of other training opportunities with Halden, MarOC and Big Jon. But like I said I would like to contribute to the team again, both performance-wise and as a teammate. Not everyone would agree but I know that I still have a lot to offer so hopefully if I can show some good performances in the Spring I will be welcomed back. We'll see. If not I will live and hope to fight many more days on the Norwegian O scene and in the big relays.

So you're living where the main selection races are, in the club staging the final selection races, and coached by the WOC2015 mapper. I can't imagine why you don't fancy a few weekends in Macclesfield as part of your preparation
Good luck to you and indeed all the squad for 2015. The WOC team will be cheering for you (in a totally non-partisan way, of course).

Does anyone know what the selection process was, where this was published and what the selection policy is for any of the Junior races this year?

I don't believe either have been published yet and we still don't appear to have an official coaching team for juniors or seniors, although I know there are volunteers trying their best to keep things going. Meanwhile the Performance Manager has apparently been on a 4 week holiday down under.

Re: The "Watch Squad"
I heard that the 3 advertised consultancy posts have all been filled.
Interviews for these positions took place in December. I don't know how many candidates there were for the positions but as far as I know Mark Nixon is appointed as the talent /junior / development coach (at least 3 applicants were invited to interview for that one) and Liz Campbell as the performance coach. Earlier it was announced that Paul Murgatroyd has been appointed as the physical training consultant.
I believe that the Performance / Development squads have already met for one technical training weekend in the Lake District in mid-December.
Info is filtering to Unwatched Outsiders via unofficial channels / anonymous sources.
I am happy to leak this info on nopesport. -Not to deliberately be a rebel but just because this is stuff that I think the governing body could and arguably should be more open about. There doesn't seem to be any reason not to and they have had plenty of time to make announcements since the appointments were made.
On / off this subject:
I have had a strange shifting relationship with the National team / governing body over the last few years, particularly the last 8 months, which has ranged from blind optimism, to wanting to help shift attitudes, to nice informative exchanges of emails with CE Mike Hamiltion, to puzzlement, to outrage and disillusionment, to becoming more informed and then to becoming unafraid to be openly critical.
I have observed years and years of terrible communication and various strategies whereby the leadership demands blind support and encourages athletes to help publicise (undeserved) positive vibes. I have at times become more optimistic, even stood in front of a room full of international orienteers from at least 6 different National teams and talked positively about the GB programme whilst part of me had that sick feeling you get when you feel like you are being disingenuous / being complicit in a fraud.
The National team and governing body can be MUCH better than it is with some small shifts in attitude and strategy. I am a person who cares about this and I could make a pages long list of suggestions that if implemented would help to improve things but I increasingly feel like it’s all pointless. I can’t seem to affect change from within the organisation / team and I’m tired of putting logs on a fire that doesn’t consistently burn. One moment I want to get involved and change things and the next moment I just want stick my head in the sand and look after myself.
Of course I have mixed feelings about nopesport as well but it is good that there is an independent forum for discussion and exchanging information and views.

I have the sense that membership of the squad these days requires those involved to be adept in doublethink

Nice one, and sadly very true! So that would make the selectors (if there are any) the 'Thought Police' !

Re: The "Watch Squad"
One thing's for sure - there will be a team at WOC2015.
Our best athletes will be in that team and giving their best, irrespective of what leg-dragging BO might be doing.
For clarity - there has been no "official BO" senior camps for quite some time. The Lakes training Helen refers to was a voluntarily organised camp by Liz and Malcolm Campbell (and it was Rock!).
SEDS camps continue unabated - these camps are not a "closed shop" and all info can be found by trawling the SOA website.

Re: The "Watch Squad"
A response to my question, from Mike Hamilton:
Hi Richard,
Selection policies for 2015 (apart from WOC) are yet to be agreed, should be agreed later this month or early February.
Selection of the squads was agreed to be by the coaches/Performance Manager and as they were made in 2014 they used the same criteria/events as were in place in the 2014 Selection Policies as I understand it. The squad titles did change but again as I understand it this did not impact on the criteria and events used.
Hope that helps.
Kind regards,
Mike
