Many of you will have seen the obituary for John Bennison in the most recent CompassSport and most of you will have run at events that he planned, organised or controlled over the last 45 years. You may also have met him at KIMMs and O events the length and breadth of Norway. He did not wish to have a funeral, so HOC and his family have asked me to post the following invitation. There will be a display of a selection of John's orienteering work and a slide show of his life, as well as plenty of space to stand and talk in a warm building after the score event
"On January 1st 2015 fellow orienteers are invited to share in the celebration of the life of John Bennison who died on 17 November 2014, aged 70, at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield after suffering with cancer.
John packed a lot of orienteering into his life; as a competitor in KIMMs in the early days, as a good technical orienteer throughout his O career and in his varied roles as controller, planner, organiser, event officials' trainer, mapper, junior coach, data protection officer, email tree guru etc. But he was much more than just an orienteer and it is those aspects too that we will be celebrating. So join us if you can at, and after, the Laurie Bradley Score event at Sandwell Valley and Hilltop in the West Midlands. Details are in the flier for the event: http://www.harlequins.org.uk/event_deta ... etails.pdf "

Re: John Bennison
If anyone who was friends with John or went on some of the tours he was involved in from the 1970's to 1990's would like to see a short film made from his slides from that era, please PM me and I will send you the details. I've sent it to some people already and it was on view at the lovely commemoration we had at Sandwell Valley yesterday, but I don't have contact details for others who might enjoy it.
