That was a crazy one out there. Me and Dids racked up for the middle qualies after driving through the night with a couple of Swedes and BJ in a pimpass Mitsubushi. saw some absolute class runs by the Brits to qualify for the final, ran the course after, then had a bit of fun in the old town of Gdansk that night. Got up early the next day, bought big breakfast on way for 80p - nice! Then great runs from the guys and girls in the final! Ran that race too, great orienteering quite simple, but tricky in sections. Went out in Sopot the party town that night - oh my goodness so cheap! Got up next day for classic. Great day to spectate for Brits as Alison came in quite far from the end in 2nd place so fingers were crossed, and obviously it was good for her in the end! But the Men's race was class: Pre-race favourites were Audun Bjerkerem Neilsen, Krepsta, Johansson and Merz. Matthias Millinger was so so early and posted a great time. It was not beaten until the Krepsta came in. Then Martin Johansson comes in a while later titz-blazin!! to take the lead. The norwegian was out of it, and only Merz third last starter was left to take the title (though the Czech nearly had something to say about that!). I was in the wee grandstand with me home boys and had the start list and watch on race time as the commentary was cack! Just under 2 mins to go and Merz is announced at pre warning (it's going to be close!) 1min40 jobby there he is in the forest, we know he has 25secs to get down the run in. 1min...40secs...30secs...he punches the control..everyone is going nuggets on the sides and then start to count down 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2...he punches...deadly silence...then Matthias Merz has taken the lead by one second - class!!
Then we raacked off back to Sweden, a trip that included my first bit of legal driving without L plates. So a bit of a shame to see the results today...glad not to be at the party tonight in some ways, but then again....
