Well, there is a 24-page technical manual which is rivetting reading for all planners and controllers. I posted the expected leading times below, and that's what we're aiming for.
We don't pay attention to lengths in km because (unlike O-ringen) the terrain is very different from day to day and even from one part of our areas to another.
It's normal for the courses to get ~20% slower between now and August, and ~10% faster through the day. Green = W18S, W20S, W35S.
Sometimes we get it wrong. And if you look at when that happens, its almost invariably because planners paid too much attention to the "normal" distances, and made it too short on nice areas or too long on rough ones.

Plenty of variation at O-ringen both times i've been there - and the point of the link was not just the course lengths but the detail of the open courses & the guide to the colour-coding.
which is why, regardless of what your base system is, you need a coordinator to at least ask why e.g. the quickest area has the shortest courses

There is a "technical coordinator" for the 6-Days (as any fule kno) and a major part of their job is to try to ensure consistency across the areas. The other part of their job is trying to keep each day to deadlines..... herding cats has nothing to keeping orienteers to deadlines

I have recently started adding a description of the colour coded courses to club websites I build. It's a simple toggle to show/hide, so it's not clogging up the page for those that already know but obvious to those that don't. I've now added this feature to the Highland 2015 Competition Info page.

Haven't got the definitive answer on that but should have very soon.

So looking highly unlikely that it will be possible to enter at the lowest entry rates when, for some, essential info is not available

Is it not possible to enter the 6 Days races and amend your entry later to include the campsite option?

Yes, you can enter now and add campsite, buses and other items later.

...but if you want to camp, you've already entered and it turns out to be no dogs...........
Easy answer I suppose is not to enter and go on a different holiday. Kennels not really an option.

I would have thought the easy answer was to enter the 6 days anyway, and if it turns out that the 6-days campsite does not allow dogs then just camp somewhere else. There are plenty of other campsites in the Inverness area.
You seem to think that the organisers should be concentrating on your specific non-orienteering needs rather than organising an orienteering event.

Dogs and campervans are on my list of favourites and as Assistant Coordinator I make every effort to ensure that we try and meet these demanding requirements. Usually these matters are outside our area of influence.

Does seem strange that this event has been in the planning for a couple of years but at this stage no-one can answer a simple question like 'are dogs allowed or not'.
You can say... go & stay at another campsite... but surely half the pleasure of a multiday event is socializing & not feeling like an outcast?

Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

It's not particularly strange given they lost their planned event HQ not that long ago and have had to relocate (which obviously included the campsite)
