I agree with Kris - what could be better than celebrating a relay medal with your teammates?
On a practical level, forest vs sprint arguments aside, it is common sense to focus on where your strengths lie. 100m is perceived to be the most prestigious event in athletics while some say that 400m hurdles is the toughest but I don't imagine Mo Farah is all that bothered.

Dids times have changed old man
Sprint is the formula 1.
Middle is the most technically demanding concept.
Long is the traditional king / queen race.
Relay is a team competition, for team players.
Don't worry Dids there are some British men striving for mastery in the forest. There has been a lag. They are showing potential but then breaking at inconvenient moments. But starting to come of age I think. Rumour has it one of them just got married FFS. He focuses on the long distance. Traditionalist.
These boys will win GB some forest medals I reckon or at least come very close. There are some team players like Kris who is also good in the forest btw. So it looks good for men's relay too.
There is also the Ewan McCarthy comeback to look forward to in 2015. So lots for fans of the GB mens team to get excited about. Craney running January World Cups, the Tullie brothers.. there should be a calendar..

One? I heard all our recent traditionalist BOC winners were at it.

Re: Brit with most world medals
you lot are so PC, the ultimate prize is classic distance gold, no Brit has ever won it, I hope they do one day...but it will probably be a girl that does it. Kris and Hoddy - the ultimate prize for you personally might be the sprint or relay, but that's not the top prize in orienteering. Most sports have a prize which ranks higher than all else in the sport, and in orienteering its gold in the classic, and it is a lot tougher than sprint racing. If you live in Britain it's probably impossible for you to win the classic gold so its probably a wise choice to focus on the sprint.

Ok Dids I agree. Classic is the classic.
It is safer to conform, be PC and go along with pack thinking.
Good that our men are all getting married! Could be performance enhancing. Lots of evidence that marriage is good for men.
For women the reviews are more mixed. Depends on the choice of husband I suppose. Dave Rollins is taken.
There you go, some more controversial comments..

FWIW John Crosby has 2 Golds and 2 Bronzes from World Champs (along with other European and World Trophy and Cup medals before TrailO got full Champs status).

There is the well documented "baby bounce" for women after pregnancy.... (of course only if their partner is prepared to take their share of baby minding....).

Exactly, and the real Kings and Queens are capable of winning the lot !
Dids: we need to encourage our specialists to perform at their best in whatever discipline they choose; their success is likely to breed success and give more publicity and eventually money (which always helps) so that in the future British chap[esse]s can regularly perform at the highest level. Belittling them for choosing an IYO inferior sub-discipline isn't helpful.

Re: Brit with most world medals
some ague that because orienteering is a relatively minority sport it is not such an achievement to achieve medals as in a sport with more participants. On that basis classic o must be the least significant medal to win
