Might be an opportunity for some club event publicity here?

Re: BBC 'Get Inspired Activity Finder'
I tried putting stuff on their website a few years ago but you needed to add pictures and I couldn't get the right sort of picture in the right size and format for it and so gave up.

Re: BBC 'Get Inspired Activity Finder'
I advertised quite a number of our events when it was 'Things to Do' but must confess I lapsed - preparing the info (including finding an inspiring photo) was yet another 'thing to do' along with all the other website stuff. I wasn't convinced it was drawing in any extra 'punters', but the 'Get Inspired' listing is now more relevant sports so I keep meaning to start using it again.

Re: BBC 'Get Inspired Activity Finder'
This is definitely worth doing. I've been listing TVOC's events for the past couple of years and it does result in some newcomers. Not as many as other avenues of publicity, but it's useful.
Also, BBC are changing Things To Do as from the end of the month, so it only promotes sporting events, and linking it better to their Get Inspired campaign. I've always thought the link to Get Inspired was quite weak, but this should improve it and make it even more worthwhile.
Re. Photos, you can now crop photos on the website, so you don't have to worry about them being the right size to start with.

Thanks, useful to have that perspective Mike. Got our publicity person on the case.

Great stuff Dave. Here's an example, for those that haven't got involved with it yet:

Re: BBC 'Get Inspired Activity Finder'
Another reason I didn't do it is that it didn't seem to be easily findable on the BBC website unless you particularly searched for it. If you click on sport it doesn't come up, if you click on local it doesn't come up, if you click on local choose a region and then things to do it doesn't come up, if you click on lifestyle it doesn't come up. It's not even in the A_Z under Get inspired or activity finder.
It is under "things to do CBBC" in the A-Z but that makes it look like a children only thing.
It isn't something you'd stumble across on the BBC website you have to know what you are looking for, and I only know it's there because another orienteer on Nopesport told me about it a couple of years ago. They need to get it under local sport to get it publicised.

Re: BBC 'Get Inspired Activity Finder'
I've searched a region and entered dates of events I've listed on there and they all show up fine. However they do take a bit of searching, which isn't easy. But I don't think that's how the listings are supposed to work. I think the event listings are intended to grab newcomers' attention, so whenever someone looks at a regional page (be it a regional news story or something like that) then a list of local events appear on that page - which could well be yours, if listed. We've had a good few newcomers come to TVOC's local events due to BBC listings, so they can work.
You also have to select which BBC project you want to list it under when entering the event, i.e. Get Inspired. That will actually be the only BBC project left running after November anyway (which they say should improve links to sports pages too).
I just had a quick look at the Get Inspired homepage - www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/get-inspired/ and the first event that shows up on there under the listings bit is an orienteering event (WCOC on Thurs 13 Nov). So it does work, if the events are listed properly.

Well "we" did it! An orienteer has become a BBC unsung hero this year.
See http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/get-inspired/28939428.
Very well done Bill!

Yep, well done Bill. Good publicity too.
I've had a message from the BBC the other day asking me to spread word about a new orienteering promotion they are running via Get Inspired - at www.bbc.co.uk/thingstodo/promotion/orienteering
When you list any O events on Get Inspired then you can tick a box to get it promoted via this latest promotion. I'm a little unsure exactly where the events are promoted, other than the usual regional BBC pages. However they clearly want to promote orienteering and it's the only sport-specific promotion they're running at the moment.
The woman I liaise with at the BBC said: "It would be great if you could spread the word as the more people we can get to sign up and add their activities, the more choice there will be in the promotion!" So, the more clubs that sign up the better, as the BBC are more likely to publicise the events as much as they can (more links on other pages for example).
