Sorry I haven't been able to get too many details prepared yet for the RTC TempO.
We are still in need of helpers so please let myself or Anne H know if you are able to help out.
Fuller info will be available on the day.
Cost: TBD
Start times: Still under discussion - it depends on the number of volunteers to help
Where: very close to assembly
Wheelchair accessible: yes
Q: so what is TempO.
A: TempO is "Speed TrailO".
You queue 30m (approx) from each station and when called forward are sat down, shown the 6 (in this case) kites and are given a covered map.
You take off the cover sheet to reveal your first map and the clock starts.
You then answer each problem, one at a time as fast as you can until you have finished all the problems (all stations will have the same number of problems - either 3 or 4, TBD).
The clock then stops, having continued while you answered all the problems.
There will be 4 or 5 such stations.
Q: What do you mean by "answer the problem"?
A: The 6 kites in front of you are referred to as A-F, or in TempO rules "Alpha", "Bravo", "Charlie", "Delta", "Echo" and "Foxtrot". You should learn these and use these to answer since otherwise it is difficult for the officials.
If you think the circle on the map, in combination with the given control description (HINT: READ THE CONTROL DESCRIPTION, especially for point features) identifies one of the kites in front of you then say the letter of the kite you think it is.
If it matches NONE of them then say "Zero".
Hint: the maps will already be orientated to North.
Read p66 onwards in the TrailO rules for more information.
Practice can be had on
http://www.yq.cz/trail-o/TempO/
and
http://www.trailo.it/Presentazione.asp
Feel free to ask questions so I can explain what I've no doubt confused you with above.
Cheers
JK

Or rather ... The map will be orientated to the direction of view of the kites.

OK, I'll try and be clearer: your chair (and hence you when sitting in it) face the centre of the cluster of kites and your map will be given to you ready oriented correctly to N.
Take the following example from last year's World Champs Qualifier:
http://www.woc2014.info/LIVE/maps/tempO ... na_1_1.jpg
and compare with the rest of that cluster. Note the "parallel error" that several missed.

Re: RTC TempO
... Bump ! ...
We could still do with a couple more helpers so we can run 6 TempO stations, otherwise we'll only have 4 or 5 (or single person stations).
A tempO station is like a Time Control in TrailO for those of you who've done/seen it.

Re: RTC TempO
We have 6 stations of 4 problems each for the TempO.
Also a Model station with 2 sets of 4 different problems to get you going.
This is the chance for some of you to pit your wits against Elites as top Italian [Foot-]Orienteers and Trail-Orienteers are taking part. In fact Alessio actually won the ITA TempO champs this year to show that top Elites can compete in TempO respectfully.
NOTE: [for those of you brought up in Northern regions like myself] it is FREE to enter!
Scale is 1:4000, contours 5m [2.5m ones wouldn't have helped IMO]
Cheers

Well done to ITA TempO Champion Alessio for winning.
Special congrats go to Andy Dale ECKO for getting all correct and Ann Harris (W12) for being probably the best "pound for pound" Temp-Orienteer out there in 23rd place.

Re: RTC TempO
BTW I hope those who competed got a feel for what TempO is about.
Of course ideally you wouldn't have seen so many kites in advance, but station 5 (where you could see the kites for a long time in advance) turned out to be one of the more error prone. Of course you might suspect some kidology there - people thought it looked simple but then forgot they were looking S and having to decide W or E side of tree.
I'm convinced that practising TempO is good techncial training and setting up one or two TempO stations does not need the ultra-precision you need for PreO (conventional TrailO).
As you'll have seen there are a lot less tricks and traps in TempO (OK some of you may dispute this) and it can be done with a variety of terrain and is even for all ages. In fact you can't have a TempO station too easy and a good Temp-orienteer will adjust his speed at a station depending on the difficulty.

Re: RTC TempO
BTW in the results above the final column is the score and the one before it the number of correct answers.
So for
5 Daniel Hubmann KOK SUI 19 308
Daniel got 19 correct (5 errors) and adding the time he took to answer to his penalties (30s for each) he final score was 308s

Re: RTC TempO
I've just spotted them - thanks Paul.
I'll get some photos and maps sometime soon to you.
That is if there is a section of the website it makes sense to put them on - there are 24 competition maps, 8 model maps, [in theory if they come out, but I don't think they are good quality ones] 8 photos. I'll see if I can sort out a solutions map too.

Sorry I was expecting people knew he was one of the top ITA FootO guys, but didn't think they'd know he was a recent convert to TempO.

I'll second that! Many thanks to members of ESOC, Gramp and MDOC who helped out (and to whoever organised the fine weather).
It was great to see so many international elites having a go at the course.
As JK has said, TempO is an excellent training tool for orienteers of all standards. I have the maps from Saturday's event, so if any clubs or squads would like to use these in your training programmes, please get in touch.
