Wow is it me or does £600 per athlete for the World Schools in Turkey 2015 sound a bit expensive?
From BSOA Website http://www.bsoa.org/default.aspx
"17 August 10:30 Travel To Turkey for World Schools 2015 - Documents Deadline
Please note that the travel arrangements to Turkey require that all school teams selected to represent England at the World Schools Championships will have to name their athletes and submit copies of their passports by Monday 15th December 2014. Select team members will also be required to submit copies of their passports by the 15th December 2014. In addition, all school and select team athletes will be required to make an initial payment of £600 per athlete to the BSOA by 15th December 2014. "

Accommodation and entry fees seem to be 294 € per competitor so £600 sounds reasonable for a fully supported 7 days in Turkey.

£600 for a week in Turkey sounds very reasonable compared with £500 for a long weekend in Belgium. See JEC thread.

It says ".....initial payment of £600 per athlete.....", which to me implies more may be required later.

I have a feeling that the cost was about £600 in 2009 when World Schools was in Spain, so you might expect it to be a bit more now.

Re: World Schools 2015 - £600!
Paying £600 doesn't seem unreasonable for an international competition but I would question the need to pay this so far in advance... not particularly helpful needing to find £600 at Christmas
Names & passports 4 months out for group tickets seems a bit much... generally you can leave this until 4 to 6 weeks out... so end of Feb?

Re: World Schools 2015 - £600!
The 'initial payment' text would be a bit of a worry, how much more is required?
If the total is £600 that seems cheap, I remember (my parents) paying £400 for a week long school trip 15/20 years ago

I think you are being a bit unfair to the organisers of the group.
They are trying to make sure that they get the best price & flight times for a group of 50 people (40 pupils & 10 adults).
In previous years names & payments were needed in March. However, I know for a fact that this year the airline is driving the price and other details. In order to get the best price, with flights at a reasonable time, they want details & payment much earlier.
As far as I am aware BSOA gets no funding so pupils & schools have to cover the cost of the trip. The organiser has spent hours checking with all the airlines in order to get the best possible deal. They really try to keep the cost down.
If you think you could do better - check the airlines for yourselves.

London-Antalya - currently £265 with Thomas Cook.
Under £200 if you're prepared to be flexible (not likely if you're a large group and you're a teacher doing this voluntarily).
Gross, shouldn't we be using you for arranging such trips? Presumably you can do some bargaining, holding of tickets for late name additions etc etc?

So for less than half the money you can get from where the athletes don't live to where the event isn''t?

I don't get you. The bulletin states:"The organisers will finance and be responsible for transfer of delegations between Antalya Airport and their accommodation."
OK so not everyone selected will be from the south... (but as the final race is in Leeds..)
Manchester to Antalya with Turkish airlines from £260 to £300
I'm sure there are direct flights out of Sctoland too....

Scotland send their own school teams, and I am sure they would appreciate your help in obtaining flights for fifty people at the prices you are quoting.

It's Adel, pronounced to rhyme with saddle. Adel Woods is the part of this map north of the dual carriageway.
