Lakes 5 Days
Anybody have an explanation as to why M20L (that's L for Long), is the same course as M60L and shorter than M55L (my Dad's course!) at the Lakes 5 Days?

Re: Lakes 5 Days
This does seem a bit odd. We paired it with M35L/M40L at Croeso 2012, a directly equivalent competition. No doubt there is a rational explanation however ...

There are some other odd combinations as well.
e.g. W16A, W18L, W20L all running on course 9, along with W65L.
It would be good to here the rationale for this.

Another curiosity is that Day 2 courses are roughly half the length of those of other days. Is Simpson Ground twice as slow underfoot as the others or are the organisers slipping in a Middle Distance race without telling us!
I hope it's the latter

It's clearly identified as a middle race on the website.

Just as well for us M50s getting "value for money" runs on Course 2.
They must be anticipating good weather - asking us to turn up in clean dry footwear every day.

Mine are nice and dry after O Ringen, by about 1300 on Tues I think the swamps of Swindale will change this.
In a bid to beat you, I am going to let Alex have my SI Card and run my course, while I run his. That way, he gets the longer course and I get the points, or is that called cheating?

However, Alex would then have your time on the M20L!!! That would look bad.............

It was based on the course length ratio used at the British champs for M20L (which most people don't run) as opposed to M20E. My brother realized this as well and also didn't want to run a shorter course than his dad so is doing M21L instead.

Of course, but he wants a longer course and there must be some recompense for 20 years of food, accommodation, taxi service??

Does that mean the rest of us are on courses with 70 minute winning times?

Big thanks to the organising team today. The start team in particular were doing a sterling job.
It will be interesting to see what proportion of entrants got round today. It definitely felt more of a survival exercise than a race.

If you thought that was survival, you should take a look at what the "other 1500 participant event" on the area was: http://www.totalwarrior.co.uk/course/. A 10km course with various obstacles, and a run up and down one of the hills on Swindale thrown in for good measure. And for that pleasure their late entry fee was £69 - makes £19 for one day of the Lakes 5 seem like a very good deal.
