I'll never understand selection decisions.
Was there not a big drama about JWOC ladies selection last year? If there was, they're going to get it again!

Well they're out.
Some interesting decisions given that the JK was meant to be the only selection races.

Given that, there are at least 3 W18/W20 athletes who outperformed at least 1 of those selected (over all 3 days, by nearly 20mins)

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
Hopefully there will be 6 girls going and a non travelling reserve named, and the announcement is just a bit of poor cutting and pasting from somewhere else.
The three girls selected are in alphabetical order (just like the boys), and so maybe, e,g. Rhona McMillan,Tamsin Moran and Katie Reynolds have just been lost from the original.
I understand Julie is injured so perhaps that is why she didn't do very well on day 3.

Admire your optimism Crawford...

So, given that nothing causes more grump and no-fun than nonselection, if we want to retain more than 3-4 people per year we shouldn't send teams at all.
WOC2024 Edinburgh
Test races at SprintScotland (Alloa/Falkirk) and Euromeeting (near Stirling).

You can always justify taking one athlete over another, and people (some at least) will agree with you. Not selecting anyone for a space in the team is a completely different matter.

I was optimistic purely because sending 3 seems rather silly. It's not as if Katie and Tamsin were complete pants last year, and they did OK at the JK this year.
Also, there isn't a full stop at the end of the announcement, I thought something was missing.

There is nothing worse than having an empty place selected over you, it's a real kick in the teeth especially at junior level. I hope the people involved had everything explained clearly to them before the selections were announced online. I also hope the criteria are changed for the future as whatever they are it is a joke to only take three girls to JWOC.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
No mention of a reserve though, I hope this is a mistake. If it is, the athletes concerned will have been informed of their selection (or not) before any announcement was made. So if this is a reporting error and there are 6 girls, they will all know already.
UPDATE:
Judging by the responses on Facebook and Twitter, it looks like there is no mistake (in the announcement anyway), only 3 girls going to JWOC

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
So to head off the immediate backlash the talent manager puts the waffle about selection criteria etc, fair enough.
So out of 140 juniors only 3 women were selected for jwoc, so my immediate reaction to this is either the selection criteria bar is to high or the talent manager is not coaching/training/mentoring etc said juniors to reach the bar. Either way the fault lay with the talent manager and not the juniors.
The only selection races for jwoc and eyoc were day 1, 2 and 3 of the Jk, yet some selected did not finish/start all 3 days, in my day if you don't run the selection race you don't get in, no ifs no buts. Take a leaf out if british athletics, the qualifying time for selection of the 5000m for men is 14:00, if you don't make the time you are not considered for selection.
As usual, same as last year - bonkers!
Time for our talented juniors to take up another sport and ditch O as a pastime.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
I don't think it's a mistake. If it were there would be no need for the "[not enough] athletes meeting the selectia crieria" comment. And that also explains why there isn't a reserve.
As a principle this can't be right. Even if someone were say consistently 2nd best in the UK, but equally consistently 15% down on the best, over a significant period, then they are going to be nowhere in JWOC/WOC. Should they be selected?
I think this is effectively what the selectors have done - they consider only the selected athletes have demonstrated the qualifying time...
