From the BO website:
Selection meetings for JWOC 2014 and EYOC 2014 took place this weekend. Due to the need for further discussion, it has been decided to delay the announcement of these teams until the evening of Tuesday 29th April 2014.
Not too surprised. I don't envy the selectors their job at all. Quite a few 'variable' results across the 3 days of the JK must be making decisions very difficult.
I'm sure the juniors in the mix (who obviously don't frequent here) must be suffering with the nervous wait for news...

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
I hope they select full teams in each class to give as much experience and motivation as possible. Waving the 'minimum standards' card for juniors isn't, in my opinion, the way forwards especially when the margins are so small.
Should've told my lot to go easy to avoid giving the selectors headaches!
As Homer says not an easy task.

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
I think the problem for JWOC is that each competitor has to run every event (long, middle and sprint) - they don't select for individual races which is probably why it is making selection difficult as there were so many variable results.

I don't think you need to worry too much Ben.
Buzz's pupil Aidan should be OK too.

The plan for EYOC was apparently to send around 12 athletes +/- a couple.

I guess it depends whether they go on potential to pull off one great performance, or be overall consistent...

Consistent, it is clearly preferable to be consistently 10% behind the Winning time than be running on the ragged edge and occassionally pull off a win

Re: JWOC/EYOC selections
Don't try to pre-empt the selectors. It will only end in disappointment.
If I had any involvement in junior orienteering I'd be trying to offer as many opportunities to as many folk as possible (bearing in mind that the Talent Programme is the one programme that does have money and also that athletes are more than willing to pay).
No matter how much time you invest in a 17 year old (for example) you'll never be able to guarantee what their lifestyle and attitude will be to elite orienteering at age 25. Some of the less able athletes as juniors have made excellent senior performance athletes.
What I do know..... there's a direct correlation between how much fun you had at orienteering (including travel & experiences) as a junior and retention rates.

I wonder what would constitute a "couple" - I can see juniors updating their FB statuses to "Married" to increase their chances of selection.
