Certainly hope there's enough interest somewhere to keep it going.

Nopesport orienteering website for sale. Get involved to give the site a future or twist it for your personal agenda. Up to you!
Plenty of us have been doing that for years! Hopefully someone sees a wee spark of something they can do with this well known brand in O circles.

If I had £1,500 burning a hole in my pocket I'd probably give it a punt - one question springs to mind - what do you get for your £1,500 ??

Re: Nopesport for sale
Haloite beat me to the question of what do I get for my money - is it just the website, or given that this is the major part of Nope Industries llp, is it the whole thing, including the events and clothing? (Still have my "I'm not who you think I am" t-shirt, although there are a few holes in it now) I see more value in other parts of the brand than the website.
Maybe...

Why don't loads of nopers chip in and buy it between them? 150 @£10 etc Would perhaps need someone with expertise to head it up though.

I'd chip in £100 or even £150, but I can't bring any computer expertise......

Online forums do make some money: See http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthr ... ke-and-how
If Nopesport is a good thing for the sport, then maybe BOF could buy it from the development fund, and rent it out to free to someone willing to do something useful with it. Maybe proceeds could go to help fund athletes travel, or a junior squad? Or could just be seen as payment for proving a useful service.
Or we could chip in a bit each and do the same, that's quite a bit of cash though.
Nopesport could do with a revamp. It's still a great place to share ideas and has been really positive for the sport, but there are more moaning threads and hysterical overreactions than positive/fun threads compared to the past (he said moaning, and overreacting ).

Re: Nopesport for sale
I think thats the problem - the cash element is pretty irrelevant. its been fairly clear for a while that the NOPE team have moved on in their lives and probably finding it difficult to get the motivation to keep things going - the NUL comms have been a bit lacking recently. It really needs someone who's got the energy and NOPE attitude (ie not any of us old fogeys on here) to take it forward.
Definiteily dont think SeanC 's idea about BOF buying it is a viable one - for so many reasons!

Re: Nopesport for sale
I've come in late to this (been rather "off-grid -unfortunately not by being in the hills!). There is a place for a BO forum - but Nopesport isn't it - and I agree with andypat's tone (putting words into your mouth in a friendly way I hope) that it is possible that some people in the BO structure don't like the way its evolved at all.
(and by the way andy I think I might have the drive and energy I just don't have the money to spare -or, I hope, the time -last year might have been different)

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Nopesport for sale
When there was a development committee giving grants out, an application for some cash to continue and develop nopesport would have ticked all the boxes IMHO. I think everyone on that committee would have seen its value.
But yes, better that Nopesport be completely independant of BOF.
However there may be other grants out there willing to donate all or part of £1500 for a good project.

Nail/Head - that's why I really, really try not to get involved in fear of being shot down in flames - and not usually in a polite way! There are some very useful posts, but, unfortunately, a lot seem to be "moan/complain/bitch/criticize" type "discussions".
My only other concern, if you can call it that, would be what happens to NUL? - but do we still need NUL now that the Regional Urban Leagues are well established? If there is a "need" surely some like minded Urban enthusiasts could collaborate to pick the events. Roger hosts all the results so there's not a problem there, and surely, looking at what Andy Pat has done with SOUL, there must be sponsorship opportunities for what would be the National Urban Orienteering League?
These are just thoughts / questions - PLEASE DON'T BE AGGRESSIVE or NEGATIVE - it really isn't required or appreciated!! Let's be POSITIVE and move this thing forward

I am happy to support a buy out in any way - money, time and effort, (just no computer skills).

Re: Nopesport for sale / NUL
The Nopesport Urban League could be run on a shoestring, but it does need to be run.
I have no plans to start charging for the results service. Justice would suggest that there's a need to create some trophies for the Young Junior and Ultravets classes (new in 2012 and unrewarded), but four housebricks plus some plates for engraving should not be expensive. It's nice to have prizes for the winners but not necessary, and indeed for the inaugural Cities League in 2007 the only prize was seeing your name at the top of the list.
As inclusion in the NUL tends to boost attendance, one way (other than sponsorship) to create a prize fund would be to request a small contribution from each club that hosts a NUL race.
I've carefully avoided treading on the toes of the Nope cartel when it comes to defining the races, but if the owners (old or new) wish then I'd be willing to work with a small number of others (e.g. haloite + 1, or the current regional league secretaries) to set the programme.
Finally, the league could be run independently of Nopesport. This isn't a threat: I'm quite happy for Nopesport to remain involved and to have the logo on the results page, but if they wish to cut the tie then it's easily done.
