Hi all
Been out of the game for a while but looking to get back into the swing of things (BTW the review forum is dead - wasn't expecting to log on and find one of my own posts at the top. What's going on?). Anyway, was wondering if any of you have used any of the new Silva Race compasses? Was considering buying the spectra one but its not exactly cheap. Are they worth the money in your honest opinion? Never had a Silva compass before (well orienteering one anyway).
Ta in advance

Re: Silva Race compasses
Cheapest I can find them is here:
http://www.aboveandbeyond.co.uk/race%20jet/list/search
Main differences look to be
- more transparency to increase map contact
- thicker plastic to make less likely to break
- better magnifier attaching method
- removal of that bit you put your thumb on so it goes directly on the map
I have a several year old silva and a several months old moscow - I prefer the silva because the needle is wider and the bright orange stands out more than the thin red of the moscow. The moscow magnifiers are cheap but break at the drop of a...compass. The silva one is expensive but will withstand you falling on top of it. The silva one also has the colours around the edge - this is a nice idea in theory but I've never used it in practice.
I think the Race Jet looks the best for me and will be upgrading shortly
