City Race Euro Tour
Thought I'd start a thread on this exciting series that's coming up in 2014. Anyone going? There's not a lot of info around yet but useful to know if anyone has been to Porto race before or Barca and got any tips about travel, accommodation etc. I'm planning to go to them all. Any ideas where in London the London race is next year?

London is back in the City in 2014. Probably all north of river and Barbican probably included. Only "probablies" as event centre not found yet.

I've been to both Porto and Barcelona. Stayed here for Porto: http://www.the-white-box.pt/ which was central, reasonably priced and really nice. Porto is super easy with a tram straight into the centre and then we just walked everywhere.
Barcelona is more spread out but again public transport is easy enough.
Both great places but Porto was my favourite

Last time I was in Porto (not for the city race), I stayed in Pensão Cristal which was very good value and central, only drawback being a lot of noise late at night at weekends (though that was the area of town rather than the hotel).

Does anyone know whether the Porto and Barcelona races let you pay in cash on the day, or in advance by credit card? The business of paying by bank transfer is great if you're in the Euro zone but pretty useless if you're not!

I can't remember whether we paid there or credit card, I do know we definitely didn't have to do a bank transfer though.

I emailed the organisers for Porto and they're happy to accept cash at the event.

Any chance of London City race being on Saturday? Much greener - can't get trains down in time on Sunday
Just realised Guildford is day before.
Pity, will be the first London we've missed. Rather expensive and somewhat inconvenient to go to Guildford first, stay over etc

Yes, agree it's a pity that London is on Sunday - so much easier to get to when on Saturday, but there was a good reason last year, so presumably so again this year. Certainly made us think twice, especially as OH finds two urban races back to back too hard on knees etc nowadays.
However, last year we really enjoyed Open House London, which coincides with the London race weekend again this year: hundreds of buildings of historical or architectural interest are opened to the public for easy access over the weekend. We had much fun exploring a range of places, including a couple of Hawksmoor churches, one of the oldest synagogues in London, the Royal Courts of Justice, and one or two private buildings. We're likely to do the same this year. It certainly made the extra expense of a stopover seem eminently worthwhile, and was perhaps even the highlight of the weekend!

Re: City Race Euro Tour
The Open House is a great idea and London this year coincides again with the open house weekend. In 2012 after the London race (from Temple) we went to the Lloyds building (very impressive) so last year took my older (non-orienteering son) to London on same day only to find that the Lloyds bldg was open only on Saturday (as was the case the year before). So we found something else to do - watch the last stage of the Tour of Britain cycling.

Museum of London also worth a visit - and will be right by race headquarters.

Re: City Race Euro Tour
Anyone got any useful info about the relay/score event on Day 2 at Porto? eg are they Urban or terrain? The other 2 days specify city but Day 2 doesnt.
Not sure whether just to save myself for the city race on the sunday...

I've been to the place where it is before, it's a large park on the between Porto and Foz. It's not clear whether the race is entirely within the park or not, though.
