Ann passed away peacefully on Wednesday 13th November. As her many friends in Scottish orienteering will know, Ann had been severely ill for several years having been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2005. Before her illness, she had won practically all there was to win in British orienteering, including the Six-Day, JK and British Championships as well as many, many Scottish titles. She was a regular in the Scottish Senior Home International team for a number of years, and was an ever-present in the VHI team until her illness took hold.
Ann edited Score for a number of years, and was a committee member, planner, organiser and mapper for INVOC. However, her greatest influence was undoubtedly as a coach. Generations of juniors in the Highlands learned about the sport under Ann's guidance. Some went on to achieve international success for Scotland or Great Britain, and all had their lives greatly enriched by the experience. We have been comforted of late by the messages of sympathy and support we have received from her former proteges, most of whom are still active orienteers. Ann's impact on the sport will last for many years to come.
A humanist service celebrating Ann's life will take place at 2.30pm on Thursday 21st November at Inverness Crematorium. All are welcome.

Very sorry to hear about your mum Patrick. She put a huge amount into the sport of orienteering, I'm sure many people are sharing your sense of loss. We'll be thinking of you on Thursday.

Ray, Jackie and Patrick,
Very sorry to hear about Ann. She was my hero, my target, unbeatable. Her navigation was just so accurate. She was such a great asset to the VHI team. We have missed her ever since she had to give up orienteering, and are thinking about you now.

I find it a tad disappointing that a thread about a new piece of software (which I think is superb BTW) is attracting more comment than the passing of one of the most positive influences on junior orienteering in Scotland who's ever lived.

Deepest condolences from the Connors, too. I didn't know Ann well but - like everyone else - knew of her, and of her many achievements and huge contribution to the sport. I also know that she was very well liked as a person and as a mum. We're very sad for your loss, Patrick and your family, and our thoughts are with you.

I do remember your Mum being a legend in the 90s (even more of one than you and a great support to young athletes in the north.
