Re: Urban Races 2014
I'm sure the 6th Brighton City Race will run in 2014 and would be happy to host a round of the NUL.
This year we will be heading West into Hove, as well as the usual mayhem though The Lanes http://www.brightoncityrace.org.uk/

Well, Royal Tunbridge Wells on Sunday 8th June will be good. First time use of a new map in this historic Kent town. Sprint race on the Saturday to make for a lovely weekend of orienteering and sightseeing. Initial details at http://www.saxons-oc.org
Perfect for the 2014 NUL.

Tunbridge Wells has The Pantiles, very much like the Brighton Lanes. Must be a Georgian shopping thing?
Dave - that sprint race on the Saturday - is it walking distance from the station?

If you're looking for a Georgian theme then BOK blast in Bath will be awesome - last weekend in August.

Sunday 15th June ... inaugural City of Manchester race. Day 2 of MDOC's Twin Peak.
Includes much more of Manchester than the SELOC event did earlier this year ... and doesn't go into Salford.
A must for the urban connoisseur ...

Re: Urban Races 2014
WIM are putting on an Urban Event at Wimborne on a brand new map drawn specifically for a Nopesport and SEOUL event on Saturday 21st June 2014.
Wimborne in Dorset is famous for its Minster and has many interesting back alleys and streets to confuse all - guaranteed to be interesting
We are also preparing for June 2015 when we have another brand new map - Sherborne - a Dorset Abbey town - again with many interesting areas - this map drawn by Mike Hampton of OD
So we will be very pleased to welcome the Nopesport enthusiasts to Dorset

Fans of Glenfiddich (and various other Speyside malts) might appeciate a trip to Dufftown, the Moray Malt Whisky Capital on 21st June (Day 1 of the Moray Mix Weekend). Also the longest day of the year ... and the daylight really does seem to go on forever up here in June.
I have a feeling this might be part of the Scottish Orienteering Urban League.

Walking distance from the station; yes it is Sean - but about 800 metres uphill, which shouldn't worry you too much

The Pantiles, you refer to, and the 'village' are really very nice to walk/run around.
'In its heyday in Georgian times, the 'Walks' as they were then known, were the place to see and be seen for visitors to Tunbridge Wells. A strict protocol was adhered to - gentry on the 'Upper Walks', the colonnade, and everyone else on the 'Lower Walks'. Richard Beau Nash, a dandy of the day made it his business to ensure that this protocol was adhered to by acting as a kind of Master of Ceremonies during 'the season' in Tunbridge Wells and in the town's rival, Bath. Things are much more relaxed nowadays and the Pantiles is now a very attractive and stylish part of Royal Tunbridge Wells.'

Re: Urban Races 2014
Door opened for me to Plug the Cramlington Urban Race on 3rd November as the same planner will be doing the Morpeth Gathering Race on 27th April (the Morpeth Gathering is an annual festival celebrating Nothumbrian culture - there's a surprising range of it- and there has been an orienteering race as a part of it for a dozen years) The race has slowly moved from within the town centre park into the town where the classic aspects of an old town, narrow alleys, unusual shaped buidings, archways and limited river crossings come into play and it is usually a good fun race (and this year Roxburgh Reivers didn't come over the border and raid the trophies.
I remember one where Freefall planned and every control was on a bridge (or under it, beside it ....)
Well worth a visit

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

And I forgot for the moment the Killingworth Race on 21st June - which should include the "hippos" and ought to be definitely challenging - I've planned on part of the map and even that little bit was interesting
