If you are going to the Scottish 6 Days why not try Radio Orienteering in Culbin Forest on the Rest Day 31st July. More like Foot-O than the other IOF disciplines. Uses a standard ISOM map. No controls are marked on the map - you have to find out where they are by using a small hand held radio to locate where the radio signals are coming from. Brief details of the event on the Radio-O page of the S6D website or a more detailed description and weblinks
This Czech TV video of the World Championships held in Kopaonik Serbia in 2012 shows competitors in action. An example of the signal broadcast by each transmitter can be heard between 1.11 and 1.42. The video has a Czech soundtrack but the essence of what it is all about should come through.
Entry on the Day. However, I need to print the maps before I travel to Scotland. There are only 30 radios available but these can be reused if starts are spread out over the duration of the competition. If you want to have a go please send an email as soon as possible to john dot ma at ntlworld dot com stating your Name, Club, SI card, Age class and preferred start time. Priority for allocating radios and maps will be given to those who notify me first!
