well gross,
u said last time u were pissed that u were giving us 20 grand as an investment.
no but really, this stuff dont cost much to be honest, u just have to know the right people and have the right expertise.
we bought our digital video cam from some money we made, the other 2 were hired at 10 quid each for the weekend. the video capture is being done at edinburgh uni in their edit suite for free. the editing and effects are being done on my mac at home with free software from apple. the soundtrack on that small clip is rom a band i did free design work for, i have rights to use as many of their songs as i want. there are another few bands have done the same. the incidental tracks will also be jcomposed on the mac with free software. the authoring of the dvd will be done on my mac with free software. the menus for the dvd will be designed using existing software i got ages ago. the burning of the dvd will be done on the mac. a large amount of dvd-r dont cost that much, and the costs of it will be covered by people who want to buy one.
so its actually only really cost us 20 quid. it aint gonna threaten shrek 2, but its our first project and hopefully it will come out well/
without meaning to offend anyone, money from soa or bof means control from soa or bof, which is one thing we wish to avoid.
the media packs will also be made up of materials gathered for very little cash through favours, friends, etc
it dont take much more than enthusiasm to make stuff happen. we just start small and build up over time.
the other film project however, may need funding, but thats in the future, and we shall see.
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT SO FAR WE HAVENT GAINED PERMISSION TO RELEASE THE FOOTAGE...

Thankfully, we still live in a free(ish) society where there is a right to free speech and expression.
Strictly speaking, if you were standing in an area that had open public access while you were filming, you do not need anyone's permission to publish the images you made.
If you were on private land and were there by "invitation" for a particular purpose (e.g. to watch an orienteering event) you might need permission from the landowner or more probably the "user" of the land (i.e. the event organisers) to publish the images.
You do not have to have permission from each of the people shown, but they could (in theory) take action against you for any "damage" caused by being portrayed in your film - e.g. if they felt the film demeaned them, wrecked their career, opened them to ridicule or caused them to attract a stalker! In practice, it is wise to get permission, especially with juniors, though apparently the best way is a letter or advert in something that participants are likely to read which says "if you do not reply within 14 days we assume you have given permission".
In my school, there is a bit of small print in the "new parents guide" which invites parents who do not wish "non-identified" images of their children to appear in school publications to write saying so, otherwise we will make and use images as we wish. Where an individual is identified with their image (e.g. named in a newsletter with a photo) we always seek specific permission - might be relevant for your video too.

This really is an excellent vid. I really like the idea of "aimed at a specific audience", in this case not trying to report the race or explain the sport.

Yup big-ups to Samsonite for a great video.
I especially liked the part where fellow team mate practically knocked down the camera! hehe. (purple bandana)

I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.

plus it takes about 6 or 7 hours to digitise and edit a full hour of video, let alone edit it all in order, title it, design the dvd interface and author the dvd, then source packaging.
we are looking at a month
and thats if we get confirmation on permissions.

I've only just now seen the video (took me a few days to unpack all my uni stuff!)
It looks great - gives the sport a more exciting image when you see people racing each other, diving into the forest not just along paths - we all know this is pretty normal but non-orienteers may not
Having shots of people between controls not just at controls is good because most of us slow down at controls and it can look less interesting if everyone's just walking

Thats fast.
Now, I know you're a feminist, and I think that's adorable, but this is grown-up time and I'm the man.

you need to learn a new technique then!
so how do you orienteer trebor? i'm intrigued as to whether you sprinted through every control in archerfield on saturday without slowing down. the only alternative is that you are simply never going fast enough to have to slow down.....
