Yesterday I was doing some promotion work for my club and getting bored. Into my twitter feed came a post promoting WCOC's event last night retweeted by @GBRorienteering so I thought "it's a nice day let's go" and off I went.
(I was even greated on the course as "Andypat" so both our fames if not our actual identity is spreading)
Great event (I was deliberately slow as I'm trying to get handle on Lakeland maps -that's my excuse) and I even met a friend from LEIOC but I'd have missed it without the tweet.
So this morning as well as tweeting into a green group (looking for EVO for the October Odyssey) I've tweeted a post about going up to Ray Demense this afternoon ( 12th May Level C -yes a shameless plug -where's that emoticon?) and included GBRorienteering as a "hashtag" -now I may be wasting my time but it got me into Borrowdale yesterday!

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Ok, I confess, it was me - I tweeted the original promotion (WCOC don't seem to do Twitter), and I mistakenly identified you as Andypat. I was tired by then. I was also going to introduce myself but shouting 'I'm usually last' in the middle of a run didn't seem wise!

Can I use this excuse as well?
British Orienteering are pretty good at retweeting event reminders etc.

WCOC don't do twitter at the moment but we may well get onto it. Great to see that we are attracting people to our events even though I've no idea who they are as Nopers - andypat, usuallylast (perhaps I should just look at the results!) and andyc, whereas maybe my initials will identify me!

Re: Twitter Works ?
Of course it does. But more importantly it has the potential to reach beyond the orinteering community.
