JK maps
Was it just my imagination, or was the printing of the JK maps exceptionally crisp and clear?

Re: JK maps
They were very clear, particularly the Hambleden maps, but maybe that was because they were not overmapped! I first visited Cold Ash (aka Hermitage) in 1985 and that map had only half as much detail.was the printing of the JK maps exceptionally crisp and clear
The two Hambleden maps were printed by BML. The Cold Ash map was printed by Hassall and Lucking. The paper appeared to be relatively thick but did seem to tear more easily than some. The Hambleden paper appears slightly less glossy.

Re: JK maps
All Cold Ash maps and the Hambleden 1:15k maps were offset litho printed. The 1:10k Hambleden maps were digitally printed by BML, and I'm pretty sure the Whiteknights map was also digitally printed.
A large amount of effort has been put into simplifying the Hambleden map, and the current map contains a lot fewer point features (aka clutter) than the one used in 2005. (We do feel a bit guilty about removing much of the painstakingly mapped detail from the 2005 map! Sorry Roger L!)

Re: JK maps
I am not aware that there was a 1:15000 map used for Hambledon. My son ran middle elite on the Saturday (day 2) and as far as I am aware had a 1:10000 identical to mine and printed by BML. What did the other long courses use such as M21L??
The Whiteknights maps were all BML
All our club maps are printed by BML and I struggle to see what better quality is gained from Offset Litho - years ago I would have said there was an advantage - but now with modern technology and good calibration (which BML always achieve) there is no difference (and even more important it is considerably cheaper and mistakes in print register cannot occur which is always a planner/controllers nightmare)
I shall probably now get into trouble from the official map makers

Roger L's not reading this: he still scouring Hambleden woods in search of his lost knolls.
