am looking forward to sunday in the trossachs - but hoping that the start times get posted asap, especially as the start window seems to have moved since first announced...

re debate elsewhere, course lengths look very reasonable (e.g. 2.9km for green) given the area's legendary toughness - being a wuss who took 13 mins/km last time there i'm glad I only have 4km

looking at info on Oentries / FVO website I can't help noticing that both Brown and Short Brown 1 are advertised as 6.8k 580m climb, 1:15,000 scale, so unless this is a typo, either there's been a big mistake in the calculations, or, more likely, they are the same course.

If so, why not say so?

Looking at the start lists, the "UKOL" concept doesn't really seem to be working as the vast majority of runners are from Scottish clubs...

... I'm only involved with Tulliallan, but you can expect commentary, plenty of elite spectator opportunity and a quality finish layout as UKOL embellishments.

Top quality orienteering too - but we'd have given you that anyway!

Looking at the start lists, the "UKOL" concept doesn't really seem to be working as the vast majority of runners are from Scottish clubs...

There do appear to be more people coming from Sweden than from England. Oh well, it's going to be a great weekend of quality orienteering - looking forward to it!

The problem is the level structure.
Services like http://oevents.info are great - but I don't want to know about every Level B happening in the UK - there's too many happening - but I do want to know about UKOL events like this, other than through Nopesport.

Some solutions:

• UKOLs/multidays all at Level A but without the onerous requirements that come with that classification.
• Many many fewer events at Level B and more at Level C (i.e. club has to have a very good specific reason to put on a "bog standard regional" at Level B and not C.) The Scottish 6 Days are at level B - is a bog standard regional really in the same league?
• An extra level (but let's not open that can of worms)
• A different classification based on how far the event expects people to travel from, or how good the area is as a classic orienteering challenge, rather than the services provided at the event.
• Weekly HTML email newsletter (parkrun-style) from BOF, with human-written comment, containing attractive list of all UKOL, British X Championship and UK Multi-Day events that are forthcoming in the next 3 months.

Actually, to reply to my own comment (!) I may be overstating this. Looking at my custom view of events on oevents.info there aren't too many Level Bs crowding things out - until you get to September. There's a couple of Level Bs that I would want to lop off the list but on the whole there isn't as much Level inflation as I thought.

Push marketing, by the organising club or via BOF, is what's needed. I think people tend to look for what's in their region / comfortable driving range irrespective of what level the event is unless it's a special event (JK, British, London, multiday etc). The UK league events have to reach this status. I think this will take a few years assuming we have the patience.

Did anyone volunteer to be BOF tweeter / facebook person? That would be one way.

An opportunity for the organising club to sell the event now? Or any other in the league. Why should people from hundreds of miles away go? Can they get there by public transport? Is there going to be accommodation, events on both days, social etc etc.

Really liked the Trossachs the only time I have run there and would love to go back, but I am afraid other commitments prevent me from making the trek north this weekend, even for 2 events.

To me, its too many Level A.

I should be getting excited about the JK (best event), the Scottish Sprints (personal priority), the Southern Champs(best area), the Sprint/Middle Champs(national championships!) and BOC(most important). But there's so many that there's nothing outstanding. (long word - look it up)

This is not specifically aimed at you Ollie.

There is a UKOL section on the British Orienteering site (I'll admit it's not easy to find) that lists them all. I would have thought that if your choice of events is influenced by them being in a league you would be looking there and making plans for the year about which to attend.

I don't see how anyone interested in the league wouldn't have already know about this weekend and made a decision on attending long ago. If you are not interested in the league then why would you want notifications specifically mentioning them?

As has been discussed before, if there was a full API of all registered event data available it would be possible to construct a mailing list with very fine tuned preferences about what to notify, but that's not likely to happen.

Sometimes you have to take responsibility for finding things out yourself, you can't expect (and shouldn't want) everything to be pushed to you, you'd drown in the flow of data.
