So how is the scoring supposed to work if you're 'running up'? I.e. why do Jonny C and Oli J not get points in the M21 category for the UKOL1 race?
Also, what if either of them wanted the points in the M21 category for the UKOL2 race, e.g. if their season goal was to be crowned the M21 UKOL champion?

The rules say:
2.1.2 An individual will only score points in the class they have entered.

Both JC and OJ entered M21 (according to Fabian) so should have scored in M21. What will have happened is that the results file will list actual age class not entered age class and so manual alteration will be required (and I believe is being done). It also looks as through clubs are being pulled from the BOF database so that those that entered under their university club have reverted to their first claim club in the league. Bad news for those students who have to pay a forfeit when they are observed not competing for their Uni club.

Yes, but the open clubs are not necessarily 'first claim' clubs, simply the open club to which they are affiliated. There is no reason why open clubs should have first claim over universities, and they don't.

I'd already written to British Orienteering why they decided to change offspring's declared affiliation, which I specifically declared as his university club, and see no legitimate reason why it should be unilaterally changed.

I'm sure they are not, but why is it British Orienteering at the very least give such a strong impression of doing their utmost to disavow university orienteering?

another SNAFU derived from BOF's inability to competently specify a membership database that complies with BOF's own rules. How many years is it now? how many more will it take to fix?

On early-season form those forfeits are the only way he'll be beaten!

It'll make up for him missing out on the forfeit given for being beaten by me.

Two great events this weekend at Tullieallan and the Trossachs, thanks FVO and other helpers!

The weather certainly didn't help, but there was a good atmosphere at both events. Two contrasting areas but both physically tough, and some good course planning too. Very enjoyable.

I'm not so surethe scoring for the Middle race at Tulliallan has all worked out correctly.
I'm fairly sure I was best M40 on the Black course yet find I have only been awarded 44 points.

Any techies out there able to explain?

It's clearly wrong. Points are supposed to go down in 1s as they do on the other 3 sets of results, but no-one got more than your 44 points and there are other gaps as well.
I guess you need to make Dave P or Helen E aware; see below.

It could be worse - you could be Claire Ward or anyone else who "ran up" and thus gets no points in any class, with no prospect of a fix at all.
From BOF site *(given your problem read 2 as 3) :

There are two issues with the calculation of the results. The first affects the Club league points where we have noticed that for at least one club and there may be more, they have not got the scores of their 3 highest any additional scorers. This is being investigated and we hope to have it resolved very shortly.
The second issue is with the individual league results where a competitor has entered an age class that is not their current age class as per the membership database. (the same applies to their entry if it was made for a club that is not their membership club as per the database).
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to resolve this in the short term and it may not be resolved for the 2013 UK O League. Further information on this issue will be posted here as soon as possible.The UK Orienteering League is a new league based competition for individuals and club teams.

Any techies out there able to explain?

It's wrong currently, and someone at BOF office is investigating. My score is also wrong - I got given the 50 points for a win on Saturday, but I didn't win!

Another error in the scoring system, I appear to have been given points at the 2nd race despite being disqualified for a wrong control. Although I appreciate being given points for my time, I feel that I shouldn't have got any!

This seems to be a general problem applying to all 4 events (it looks as though the scores have been determined from the time in the results, without taking account of whether or not the course was completed). British Orienteering are aware of this issue.

All those issues, epecially those in the individual competition, are eminently resolveable; they will just have to sort them out manually if an automated way can't be find - straightforward if a bit tedious. To say that they might not be sortable this year is quite ridiculous. After all, Mike Hamilton himself was keen to tell me that this is one of British Orienteering's premier competitions.......
