So sad. Saw the news before. My thoughts are with Rachel's family. Very well known in Orienteering circles for years.

Re: Glencoe Avalanche
I just clicked on the BBC News link that the fourth casualty has been named
There was Rachel, beaming a typical big smile.
Tom, less obvious but just as full of life.
I don't know Christopher Bell or Una Finnegan but if you go on the company they kept...
undoubtedly all four leave big gaps

If you could run forever ......

Didn't know Una or Chris, but both Rachel and Tom were old friends. While I hasn't seen either of them in a good while, it's a shock to hear that they're gone. Thoughts are with all their families and loved ones. Rest in peace, all four of you, and may we hope the injured 6th member of the party makes a full recovery.

Re: Glencoe Avalanche
A huge lose to all their families. We knew Tom for over 20 years and Rachel from when she was at Leeds Uni with our middle son. She actually introduced him to his wife. They are devastated as is our youngest son who was a friend of Tom's for 20 years. They will be sadly missed.

Aire's race tomorrow evening will be held in memory of Rachel & Tom. There will be a minutes silence before the start.

Thanks for that Becky. Hope the donations from the O community can benefit the Lochaber and Glencoe teams in the same way as the fell runners fundraising in memory of Darren Holloway for the Woodhead mountain rescue and Air Ambulance did.

Back in 2005 I spent a week in the French Alps mountain biking with BikeVillage. Tom was in his first summer as a mtn bike guide with BikeVillage. A great rider and a good guy, learnt some good downhill tips from him.

Re: Glencoe Avalanche
I have met Una -she was a member of a group at Northumbria Uni called the Wilderness Medics and she attended some of our events while up there in Edinburgh- very friendly, enthusiastic and a sad loss.
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Glencoe Avalanche
I remember the Wilderness Medics going to the Edinburgh race one year and being bemused by their name. Is there any news of the fifth member of the group who was seriously injured - I think it was a girl but I have not seen a name or health status any where?
