From their website:
"In response to the problems and controversies that developed during and after the event in question, the Organizing Committee has decided also to protect the sprint race of the World Championship Absolute scheduled Saturday, July 5, 2014, to suspend the 2013 edition of the race.
Regretted for this decision we take the opportunity for a welcome greeting."
Bummer for those like me who are Venice fans. Can't say I'm surprised - with hindsight they should have cancelled 2012 and held 2013, but hey.

I've suggested to the organisers of the Brugge City Race they consider holding it next November, after all, Brugge is often referred to as 'The Venice of the North'

I believe they were thinking of holding it again in 2014 (presumably at a similar time to this year), but in the absence of Venice, next November would be good.

The London City Race next year will have a very watery theme to it...
Stop talking, start running.

Bruges was very good (especially the large amount of beer being sold at the assembly).
Recommendation for next year is Porto:

Entry price is a bargainous 7 euro, and cheap flights from various parts of the UK.
Also heard rumours about a sprint race in Berlin.

I was there for a road race last month and thought then that it would make an interesting area for an urban event - glad to see it's going to happen. If it's included, the 2-level bridge could give competitors (and mappers) some challenges!

Re: Venice 2013 cancelled
Or there is also the chance to run on the famous Matera Map (from PWT2002) in the Med Open Champs in March 2013:
March 14th – MOC Prologue Castellaneta old town
March, 15th - 1st stage Chiatona forest – Taranto district (middle distance). First start 15.00
March, 16th - 2nd stage Lenne forest – Taranto district (long distance – mass start). First start 11.00
March, 17th - 3rd stage Matera Historical center – Matera (sprint distance). First start 10.30
According to Tero G, Matera was "one of the biggest technical challenges I ever faced" and I thnk there is a youtube clip on PWT2002 Matera somewhere on the www.
According to Madmike, Taranto is a pretty good urban map too with an interesting Castle area, although not quite in Matera's class but then where is?

Can we take it there has been much frantic studying of the tide timetable for July 2014 in the last week or two?

not here in Italy - the long term plan only goes out to Tuesday next week - 2014 is too far away to bother with yet
