JK2013
See that details are now out with 1st closing date being 3rd January with each month having a big increase in cost. Surprised to see that entry fees are higher than last year (if memory serves me correctly) plus £1 a day for ******* emit hire.

JK 2013 entry fees are the same as JK 2012, as you can quite easily check here. In fact, JK entry fees have gone up by £1 since 2008, so are actually lagging somewhat behind inflation.

Given much fewer people in the UK own an emit brikke than an SI card, I expect they'll have to hire quite a number, so don't think you can have anything against the cost.
A slightly different thought is that I'm still not sure why major events in the UK don't have SI as standard given the above statement

Quite ironic using SIentries for an EMIT event! Hope the hired emits aren't from the many dodgy batches with high failure rates and come accompanied with back up pin card!

Not especially, Emit don't (as far as I'm aware) do entries, so it's a straight comparison between the others. JK13 obviously decided SI was best suited to their needs... (not to mention the fact that for the last few JKs entries have been done through SI and it's been, I think, the same person doing the admin for each)

Oh, grief, why use emit?
Not yet decided whether to enter - this is definitely a negative.

Why on earth is EMIT even considered for one of GB's top events.
Few orienteers have their own brick. Everyone else has to pay extra to hire one adding to the cost of entry, travel & accommodation. Some people are on low/no incomes. It all adds up.
Few orienteers use EMIT regularly. Everyone else has the fun of working out how to hold one and how to place it in the control. So instead of planning the route to the next control they are busy fiddling with the brick.
Those who do have a brick or use it regularly therefore have an unfair advantage. Five seconds lost at each control soon adds up and can make a difference in the final result (especially in the sprint).
The JK & BOC should only SI
I agree with Karen - do I the want the hassle? Or do I just spend Easter somewhere else.

SCOA are an EMIT region -- i.e. the clubs in that region all have/use EMIT.
As a result most (if not all) of the officials are used to using EMIT and the Association
does not need to "buy-in/Rent-in" all the kit, software and expertise to handle the
alternative(in this case SI).
If they did have to hire in the kit etc then you would be complaining about the extra
charge required to cover it
I happen to be a fan of EMIT brikkes (with or without display units), but then I am also
a fan of SI. Both are a big improvement over pin punches and control cards, which in
turn were a big improvement over self-inking stamps (and yes I am refering to the
dawn of O history).
At least, for the time being, all EMIT brikkes are compatible with all the current
EMIT controls (and I am excluding Emitags which are a different generation) which cannot be said for SI where the SIcards are not necessarily compatible with older SI
controls

They are charging extra to use EMIT at £1 per participant per day.

If that participant does not have their own brikke, whereas everyone would have to
pay the cost of getting the other kit etc. in even if they have their own SICard. Those
without their own SICard would then need to hire one (as normal), including members
of the organising region/clubs.

As a matter of interest will BOC2013 be using EMIT or SI?

BOC 2013 is an SE event so I assume SI.

SN use SI so not all clubs in the SCOA region use EMIT.

The minutes of the SEOA meeting on 27th September 2012 (http://www.moorenet.co.uk/seoa/minutes/ ... sept12.pdf "Appendix B") requests an "SI Coordinator/Download" volunteer. So it seems to be SI.

Or perhaps SN are not in the SCOA region, as "BOC 2013 is an SE event" as Mikey wrote.
Doh!
