I'm investigating the possibility of the SOA having some sort of presence at this event as part of our marketing strategy leading up to WOC 2015. Before I contact the organisers I wanted to get as much info and background as possible to help with this.
Anyone competing, competed, spectated or otherwise been involved who can offer some insight or contact details for me?
Also anyone based in Edinburgh area who'd be up for helping out on the day if we get this arranged? It doesnt seem to clash with any significant orienteering over that way.
At the moment I've only got the generic BUPA great run email address to go on.

I know that Scott has blagged his way into this race before, and Rocky's run it too I think. They're probably the best people to ask.
A lot of orienteers have been to watch but then you don't see much in the way of contact details...

I'm not sure blagged is fair..
Alex Jackson does the timing / results.
He's my uncle in-law
probably a good way to find out who you could speak to in the wider organising team.

If you could run forever ......

He definitely deserved to be running, no question... but didn't he pretty much rock up on the day with his spikes and say 'please sir, can I run, I'm good'

pm.ed some contact detail
Days when you (even I!) could do that are gone, its selection only nowadays. East District, Scottish Unis, and Scotland are all possibilities for team selection at a level top orienteers can achieve. Scott got a late selection once...

but as Scotland's fastest 10k runner of 2012, he should get in somewhere.
What do you want from them? They can't stop you organising an event in the Park, except where the XC is (includes the normal parking). Co-advertising? Use of their loos? Co-Sponsorship?
Our BOF participation manager Steve Vernon also runs it most years...

Thanks Graeme - will send off an email shortly.
No actually we've been looking at supporting some sort of SOA/local club presence at big running events even if just a marquee with some info to increase the profile leading up to WOC 2015. We've got a bit of a budget for marketing materials for the next year or two. It was actually Jess Tullie who suggested this event- I cant take the credit as I didnt even know it was on. I doubt we'd be looking to put on a race on this occasion.

Andy. I'd love to help, and have some good XC contracts. Will be in touch when I eventually get back from Washington. Can we get a big screen? I can think of some uses we could put it to.

If by "get" you mean spend money on then I think probably not unless youve got a stash somewhere! Keep your head down over there - supposed to be getting a bit breezy later...
