Well I use the Chrome browser developer tools -> Resources -> Frames -> Images and look for the jpg with a number. Select it then right click and choose "Open in a new tab".
Perhaps it would make a good feature request to Simon to add a means of opening the map image in a tab.

A slightly less techie method is to search for the map on http://omaps.worldofo.com then right click the 'view map jpg' to open in a new tab. This relies on omaps having picked up the map but this is usually ok.

Re: Route gadget question
Does RG2 have an equivalent to the old "snap off". It is quite impossible for me to show my route at BOC where I lost so many minutes at number 2 because whilst I now know exactly where I was many times but I cannot click that close to the control without it assuming i've been there.

I wasn't going to add this but several people have asked for it. There is now a check box on the configuration option dialog to turn snap on and off. It defaults to "snap off" so you need to click pretty much on the dot at the centre. If you check the box it goes back to where it was, which is an allowance of 7 pixels. The setting is saved locally on your PC so once you have set it to what you want it will stay there every time you access RG2. This version is now on all routegadget.co.uk sites.

I have now added event statistics to the Information Dialog that comes up if you click the question mark icon in the top right of the screen. This includes the map id that you need.
It also includes a full list of all comments so you won't have to look through each course to find them.

Re: Route gadget question
OT-ish ... I was asked to give a quick talk on orienteering and wanted to show a RouteGadget animation, but couldn't guarantee an internet connection at the venue.
A bit of digging found "LiceCAP" (http://www.cockos.com/licecap) - it records what's under its window as an animated GIF that you can then play in PowerPoint (insert / movie). A 15-second clip was about 4MB.
I'm sure there are many other similar tools, but this is simple and free. It works with Windows 8 as well as the earlier versions listed.

Thanks for that Simon. As it was I could not have put up my route to 2 in any meaningful way, yet i really do know where I was retrospectively. I'll try it when I get a moment.

Re: Route gadget question
I tested LiceCAP a little, it is pretty good and easy to use. CamStudio works well too, this was recorded with it, uploaded to youtube as mp4, 29 Mb, duration 4:14 .
CamStudio could not record with fast enough frame rate to make it look smooth. The workaround trick I used here was using a lot slower animation speed in RG while recording, and then speeding the video up afterwards with ffmpeg.

Is is me or does the RG auto-generated link (when you save your route) not actually work correctly? It doesn't seem to add in the course. You need to go back and select the course and then your route to get the right url from the browser window. Anyone else find this?
e.g.The auto-generated link is this https://www.sroc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#367&route=50036
but it should be this https://www.sroc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#367&course=2&route=50036

The link includes whatever courses and routes you have selected to display. So if you want the course you need to select it yourself.

This is true, but the autogenerated link only has the route part - I coded in the part that adds the course number but we had a discussion about how it needs an undefined check and I think that broke it - I've always intended to try and fix it but never found the time and no-one has ever brought it up.
I will have a go at fixing it before the JK weekend

Is this no longer the place to find base maps in Routegadget? https://www.xxx.routegadget.co.uk/kartat/

Re: Route gadget question
Data files are all still in the same directory as ever. What has changed recently is that for an event with a .gif map file there is no longer a .jpg map as well. This saves a significant amount of space on the server.
