I've just finished reading 'Year of the Perfect Run: A Quest'.
There are not many books about orienteering - just a few instructional books as far as I know, so this is something special. And I can highly recommend it.
I've heard how difficult it is make good TV or film out of orienteering so it must be even more difficult to put it into words. However the author has done a fine job, I couldn't put it down at the bit about Day 5 of the Hungarian Cup - would he do it or would he blow it.
A few map extracts would have been nice but I suppose technical issues/cost did not allow.

Yes - an excellent read and the author is a frequent poster on Nopesport. Unfortunately it wasn't a year I shared many of the same forests and I haven't gone into Routegadget references yet. You didn't mention the Scottish 6 Days Bill!

I'm still reading this, but finding it really interesting.
The mix of history, autobiography, travelogue, psychology and science makes it a must read for orienteers.
You can read the first 3 chapters on Amazon to check the writing style.

Just finished the book and really enjoyed it. Paul's description is pretty accurate. You dont get many orienteering reads, let alone a decent one - definitely one to get hold of for the holidays!
