Double British Championship weekend with over 1000 entries and the World Sprint Champion on the women's elite start list (although of course not eligible for the titles...) - not a mention?

Re: This weekend
So the first response links it back to a debate about entry fees.
The second bashes BOF.
Nopesport 2012 model is not really Tales of the Unexpected is it...

And there's still a spare entry on M35 for the sprints if anyone wants it...

Re: This weekend
Really looking forward to the events now.
York Uni looks intricate enough for Nev to keep us thinking the whole way round, and it will indeed be interesting to see the WE final.
As far as I know Strensall is only usually available when the ranges are closed for Christmas so it will make a change to run there without breaking ice on puddles. It's been very dry for weeks, the vegetation is very low after early February snow so what are the odds on the EWT being beaten?

Re: This weekend
Strensall looks "interesting" if a bit flat for my liking. Should be fast and furious with small mistakes being severely punished!

Re: This weekend
Anyone in the South East not going to the big event could try the DFOK local event at Bostall Heath tomorrow where there will be a control at Dick Turpin's cave * **. There are some nice spurs and valleys.
*apparently it isn't really Dick Turpin's cave as he was hung long before it was made.
** cue comments about how orienteers are always being robbed.

Re: This weekend
For anyone in the West Midlands who's not at the British, there's an event at Pype Hayes, Erdington, on Sunday http://www.coboc.org.uk/futureevents2011.htm (Yes, I know the url says 2011, but these are this year's events, honest
)

Will certainly add some excitement to the event to have the current World Sprint Champion there. It'll be interesting to see whether the British Women can beat her on "home" terrain.
In the Men's elite, difficult to pick a likely winner...
Weather looks good for spectating - should be a great day.

Although if Oli J (who is the top ranked (IOF and BOF rankings) athlete on the start list) can win on Saturday then he will become the first man ever to complete the set of British titles (sprint, middle, long, night and relay).
And he is younger than the only former winner of the British Sprint title to appear on the start list....
However it is also a selection race for Junior World Championship and World University Championship so there will be plenty of young(er) guns going for it.....
Why did I do that...

Re: This weekend
Enjoyed the sprints. Good area, good map (apart from the printing), good courses.
Lost 30-40 seconds in the final attempting to use a mapped covered passage which didn't exist. Not the mappers fault but the printers, blue and black weren't overlaid properly, resulting in pale grey spaces besides the blue north lines wherever they went through buildings. Anyone else fooled by this?
