Roll of Honour
Does anyone know the rationale behind what gets onto the back page of the recently produced Annual Report. Apparently a 4th place podium (top of any GB team last year) wasn't good enough for the Trail-O team to be mentioned.

Re: Roll of Honour
We've been through this before; Trail O (The most technical of the disciplines) is done in the main by people of mature years. Therefore from a BOF point of view it isn't photogenic enough or sexy enough for them to give it more than a passing mention. The fact that we have some very good competitors (including John Crosby the current British Paralympic Champ and the organiser of NATO's next event the 11th Annual Carlisle Park Race -part of the Morpeth Gathering - where is that blatant plug icon?) and that the control sites are easily accessible without navigational skills (and so could be found by journalists and photographers) is irrelevant to them. It just doesn't fit into the image they wish to project.
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Roll of Honour
I expect that who ever worked on the Annual Report didn't have the WTOC results to hand and may not have realised how well GBR had done. I got the UK Relay League included for the first time this year by emailing the office back in January saying who the winners were asking for them to be added.

But surely if you are compiling a BOF Roll of Honour - it's your job to know

Re: Roll of Honour
The British Trail-O Champs are mentioned on the page in question which strongly suggests that the discipline is in scope.
4th and above is listed for World and Euro comp (2nd table). Medals only for the World Masters (3rd table).
So, we need to know what was the competition where the 4th was achieved? And the level ie open.

Who were last year's winners? I didn't think it had been contested in 2011.

I see that there is coverage of Trail O on the BOF website -with pictures and everything- at the moment

Re: Roll of Honour
It looks like this result should be included in the 2nd table then.

And Trail-O is frequently featured in Focus. Overall it probably gets a disproportionately high (for the number of competitors) volume of coverage from BOF (am not suggesting this is a bad thing, btw) - far from "not fitting the image", it ticks all sorts of inclusivity boxes for funders...

Re: Roll of Honour
I assume its human error that the GB TrailO team is missing from the Roll of Honour.
The information was requested by BOF Office when the report was put together and supplied by me at the time.
The GB TrailO team of John Crosby, Ian Ditchfied & John Kewley at the WTOC2011 prize-giving were thunderously applauded by a huge crowd, because the next person on the podium was their national hero, Thierry Georgiou.

Could be because there is the small matter of the World Championships happening in Scotland this year? And as with other World Championships, there should be a legacy for the sport. Raising awareness is the first step... Getting more local TrailO events happening is the next.

If you'd been at BTOC last weekend you'd have seen that this is not the case amongst our Scandinavian friends - many of whom came over to try out TrailO in forested sand dunes in advance of the World Champs in June. Take a few extra days in Scotland after the Jubilee 5 weekend, come along to Tentsmuir and see for yourself. And you never know, you might find it improves your own orienteering technique!

Edit: this is what happens when you leave your PC unlocked, have Nopesport open and logged in and there is an 8 year old in the house. Sorry.

Was this the same person who commented in Focus that unfortunately some clubs had not organised any events or activities in that wonderful league table?
GMOA don't organise any events because it is a collaboration between MDOC and SELOC to set up, maintain and promote POCs in the region covered by the clubs.
I wonder how many other in the list of those "who haven't done anything" fall into similar categories.
On the Ranking list of clubs in the table, let's just remember there are ways to manipulate participation figures, we, collectively might do it to boost numbers to show growth but do WE, the people in the sport really believe them??

On my copy it is 9th and above that are listed in that table, not 4th and above - maybe it is top 10 results that are intended.
