This is probably the best place to ask a question like this, guaranteed fast response!
It's the Scottish Sprint Champs tomorrow which is two (cumulative, but very separate) races. On the BOF results page it is registered as one event. For results/ranking purposes should it be two? Or can a person gain multiple ranking points from different classes in a single event if they are down as competitive (i.e. can I lump the results file from the two competitions together)
If I need to create a 2nd event in the BOF database can our events person do it or would I have to go through BOF at this stage?
thanks in advance!

Re: BOF Results Query
If you create a separate event yourself you may find yourself being charged two sets of levies.
For the British Sprint Champs last year Mike Hamilton set up a separate event for the heats for me on the day before the event. Being a British Champs there were no levy implications but it might be possible to set an event up in such a way that ranking points can be generated but no levy demand. Then again it might not.

Re: BOF Results Query
I believe different events have done it different ways in the past.
Some sprints have definitely given ranking points separately from heats and finals, but I am certain that to be able to do so they have to be registered as two separate events.
If only one event is registered then only one set of results can be uploaded and only one set of points can be awarded, which would presumably have to be from the final. You could not submit combined times if different finals have different courses, as (for example) if final B is shorter than final A combining could give a slower person in final B a better result (and more points) than a faster person in final A.

Re: BOF Results Query
Everyone in a given class is going to run the same course(s) so no issues there. It isn't heats and a final, it's cumulative.
I hadn't thought about the levy issue. I think it makes more sense to have both races counted as different entities, much like each stage of a 6 days for example. I guess I can try uploading a single file with both races and see what happens. (does anyone have any experience of this?)

I think Spookster is you best point of contact for clarification if both levy implication and how to upload it for points. PM him.

Re: BOF Results Query
To upload both sets of results separately you certainly need to have two events.
If the result of the competition is based on the cumulative time of both the prologue and final added together, then you should just submit the cumulative total times to the results system for ranking points.
However, you wouldn't do that if the final was a chasing start, since chasing starts (or mass starts) can't be included in the rankings. But I don't think tomorrows final is a chasing start - it's a timed start in reverse order isn't it?

Yes, a reverse order timed start.

Re: BOF Results Query
We've sorted it out, thanks everyone.
Submitting cumulative times as one race is crazy Spookster, thankfully everyone else suggested the more sensible (and used in the past at other similar events) option of uploading two separate races (uploading cumulative times would be akin to uploading all days of the Scottish 6 Days as one race?!). thankfully our entries person was on hand last night to set this up for us. It might be registered as a level D but we'll get it updated to C asap.

No, it's not akin to uploading all the Scottish 6 Days races as one race. At a 6-days, you enter 6 different races (or fewer, if you choose), and expect to get 6 sets of ranking points. Whereas today everyone entered one competition (which had two race parts to it). Therefore I'd expect to get one set of ranking points.
But anyway, as we discussed today, it's not covered by the relevant rules Appendix, and either solution is fine. As it happens, two separate sets of points will work better for me...

Thanks for getting the results online so quickly.

Re: BOF Results Query
It's an interesting debate, either way it'll be great when the committee is in place to make a decision either way. For this race I've uploaded as two separate races, the 2nd one will be changed to level C sometime in the nearish future.

Re: BOF Results Query
As level Ds don't get ranking points you may need to upload the results again once the level has been changed to C.

ok, thanks. I'll be keeping an eye on it anyway (and re-uploading a few times as more DSQs come in!)
