But at the moment those selection races are abroad in almost identical terrain to the competition. Where does that leave the rest of us who don't hope to be selected? To make BEOC "the" selection race would make BEOC happen abroad (stupid) or make the selection process compromised - neither of those are good enough options. It has to be "a" selection race, and then you hope that as it's BEOC too the big names will come. They have to do a couple, and surely BEOC should stand out form the few as the one to be at? There is at least a better chance of their attendance if it's a selection race.
Then combine it with BOC and all the punters such as myself will come along as well. Purfick.
beoc should be mandatory

Quite right - they obviously still teach you grammar down there. I've changed the definite article to an indefinite one.

Which leads to a question I've been meaning to ask since this thread started. Does anyone have any idea why Holme Fell was used as selection for EOC in Denmark? It seems particularly perverse when BEOC was on (fairly) relevant terrain. It can't have been the timing, since several other countries held their selection races on the BEOC weekend.

terrain used for selection races
The selection races for Denmark were in my opinion held on Forest of Dean terrain - great - relevant (except for the first race being pretty much voided because of a crap map), and two Lake district areas - lovely terrain, totally non-relevant.
The sprint at EOC is town centre terrain with parks - lake district area useful for selection?? And Holme fell...well...enough said.
The selectors said it was difficult to select - well they certainly make it difficult for themselves.

and i think we would probably find that jamie is the hardest and the fastest bastard, and dan is the second hardest and second fastest bastard (only just)... .and so on.
the selection races are down on paper months in advance. so people should be ready for them. as has been said many times before, worthy contenders for the teams will do well in the selection races regardless of location, terrain, wrong underwear.
