Have just seen on here http://www.ukcup.org.uk/races.php that next year's UK Cup races have been announced.
As well as the usual races, there's some intereseting ones in there such as the Malvern urban race, AIRE's ultra-long and another chance for the final mass start race (hopefully with more competitors than this years).

Moving the level of organisation up to level B?
(actually knowing you I guess it was already at that sort of level)

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: UK Cup 2012
Gulp! but what does the UK Cup mean to me as organiser? Is there anything I will have to do that I'm not already likely to be doing?

Doesn't mean much for the organiser. A handful of extra entries if you're lucky. Setting up a popular thread on nopesport of usually the first move.

Where's the JOK chasing sprint? Included in WOC and axed from the UK cup
And we've got the best SCOA area of the year...

Every day more & more sense comes out of BOF.... not
How can a National Competition be set up without discussing it with the event organisers.... Mrs H should do a Cameron

I have it on very good authority that HOC were aware of the proposal to have the March weekend as two races.... on this occasion, I dont think the 'blame' lies with BOF or volunteers working on their behalf.

Yes it's quite possible it was only me that wasn't informed
The committee is currently cowering somewhere and hasn't answered my increasingly irate questions - well this has cheered me up no end.

Re: UK Cup 2012
Sorry, but this all getting a bit ridiculous. Supersaint starts a thread about the UK Cup, and it's quickly used as an excuse for BOF-bashing - as if there weren't already enough threads which do that
.
So, any views on the UK Cup? Is the mass-start final worth another go? What about AIRE's Ultra-long?
(Yes, a bit clunky, but I wanted to get in another plug for our event)

Well it was only Gordon and that doesn't count
Me and the UK Cup co-ordinator are best friends

Avery nice man, who is co-ordinating the UK cup contacted me about the Aire Ultra Long O (thanks for the plugs Guys).
It may have been in my capacity as Club Fixtures Sec rather than the event organiser!
Sounds to me that BOF are being unreasonably bashed
You will get a Cup logo to add to your literature and nothing much else extra to do.
Our event will remain level C - but quality nevertheless.

Re: UK Cup 2012
Since you've had a plug, might as well milk it. How long is the ultra long O then? Will there be a less technical course for fell runners/adventure racers (see Tim Watkins thread) and will there be a not quite so ultra ultra long o course (s) etc? And will it be over some lovely moorland or that Total Wipeout area near Bradford I went to the other week (name of area unknown - map covered with mud).

It will be a re-run of the Aire Valley Long O from 4 years ago - a mixture of moorland, a variety of very pleasantly runnable woodlands, some with rock detail, with a section of urban thrown in for good measure. Not a 4x4 track anywhere
So no mudbath this time. If memory serves me correct the Long Course was 24k SuperSaint won in 2hours 24minutes. Only a handful of others broke 3 hours.
You can see the area at http://www.aire.routegadget.co.uk/cgi-b ... &kieli=24k.
Don't know yet whether we are going to target fellrunners. This race is never very far from civilisation.
Indeed EVA:
Assembly 5 minutes walk from Saltaire World Heritage Site, including the Hockney Gallery at Salts Mill. And a cafe and a very fine riverside pub with food in the adjacent park.
And all by Saltaire station.

Re: UK Cup 2012
Are you seriously saying that as a part of the UK cup next year you're including a course that has been run before
Variety's good, but why not forget the orienteering and have a marked course
