I spent a rainy Saturday filing all my O-maps (ahead of a long delayed spare room redecoration).
There are three that I cannot identify - from the days when I thought it was 'cool' to trim off excess paper/borders.
Scans are at...

(I have uploaded at 300DPI so zoom in to see more detail)
I think the first one might be Clocaenog in North Wales - when it was a DEE area - I can vaguely remember finding #6 in the open area at the top of the hill.
The second on is a WCH map - possibly Dimmingsdale?
I have no clue about the third one - I cannot remember the race - but looking at the course it must be one of the toughest I have ever attempted...
Can you help me?
Can you identify these maps?

I think your identification of Dimmingsdale is correct, comparing with this high-quality FC map.

Re: Can you identify these maps?
I don't know the first one - it certainly doesn't look like the Clocaenog South map that I have from the early 80s.
The second one is what is now called Dimmingsdale but at the time was called Hawksmoor and Threapwood.
The third one is the M21A course from day 1 of the Mammoth in 1984 held at Miterdale and was indeed a very tough course (2nd Master Map was at no. 7). From my recollection only half the runners actually completed the course!

No.1 is Myherin (The Arch) forest near Aberystwyth - map from 1978/79. When I lived in the area - late 1979 to 1984 - it had a justified reputation as being green and unpleasant, and I can only remember it being used for local events.
Of course, much better orienteering areas are now available in that part of Wales, for example at Croeso 2012.

I remember clambering up the cliffs north of number 8 at Mitredale on an elite course, but not on that course.

Thank you for all this! The power of crowd sourcing.
I have clear memories of Myherin - there was snow still on some of the rides. As the rides were contouring round steep slopes and all the bracken had been pushed over by the snow so as to lie down the slope I found myself constantly sliding down into the dark green. It was warm and sunny though - I don't think it was part of any Welsh Weekend - a standalone Aber Uni event. 1979/80 makes sense as I travelled with my parents.
I have no memories at all of the Mitredale course (protective amnesia?) - although I do remember walking up Scafell from Eskdale the day before/after and also running at Irton Pike which might have been the same Mammoth.
