Re: Lincoln City Race 2011
Any idea if there will be some final details on the web, or if not, any suggestions for parking? This'll be my first visit to Lincoln and I'll be coming down for the double header - staying in Derby on the Sat night with a mate.

Hi Andy
Yes, final details will be posted on the LOG website on Tuesday, once entries have closed.

Very enjoyable race today as well following yesterdays Sheffield event. Different challenge today - more cerebral rather than the physicality of yesterday. Interesting interpreting some of the control descriptions. Not sure they were all how I'd have described them - but then again that's part of the fun of Urban.

Re: Lincoln City Race 2011
There was much talk about #50 at the end - cliff SW inner corner. Despite reading it very carefully several times I convinced myself it was cliff foot so went to the S side, like many others. Not complaining, as I believe the description given is technically correct, but N side would have removed any risk of misinterpretation.
An enjoyable event - apart from my slip in the wet on the corner of a metal walkway in the SW corner. If I'd executed my planned route correctly I would never have been on it.

I disagree. I don't think interpreting the CD's should be part of the sport. The control in the vineyard seemed to be the one which caught most people out. It's the first time I've had a control on 'crag, inside corner'. Many seemed to interpret the 'inside corner' symbol as 'foot' instead. I didn't do this myself, but sympathise with those who did.
Wouldn't the control have been more simply described as crag (or even wall, as that was what it really was), north side?
I thought the courses were very well planned, the only issue was the way some controls were described. I vaguely remember a similar debate after last year's race...
Thanks to LOG for a good event.
Edit: looks like KP beat me to it!

Re: Lincoln City Race 2011
Like many others, I fell for the "trap" (if that's what it was) at control 50. Given that the control description symbol for "inside SW corner" is almost identical to "foot", and that I can't remember while racing which column on the CDs each of those two sub-descriptions should go in, it doesn't surprise me that I mis-interpreted it and I wasn't the only one. In fact at the finish there seemed to be as many people who'd got it wrong as had got it right.
The legs to that control would still have been great if the control had been placed unambiguously on the hedge (orchard) where it usually is.
Anyway, despite that, course B was still very enjoyable.

Re: Lincoln City Race 2011
I figured it out - tbh the leg wouldnt really have made sense if the control was at the crag foot - but it is a bit sneaky. Wall corner or crag top might have been fairer.
The control later on on the small tree that turned out to be the middle of a huge thicket was interesting too!

Re: Lincoln City Race 2011
I think the standards say that if the description says Crag, but doesn't say foot, then by definition it is the top.
There was some discussion of this at Day 5 of the Scottish as the descriptions didn't follow this convention...
