Mobile phone coverage at 6 days
Saw this on the BBC news today http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14159357. If 3000 (odd) folk download the app and turn on their phone during the 6 days maybe we might all make a difference.

Re: Mobile phone coverage at 6 days
Mobile phone coverage in the area looks reasonable but mobile broadband doesn't look very clever for the area Benderloch to Barcaldine. Does anyone know what network is best in that area. The fact that the camping site at Barcaldine, which isn't far from our chalet, sells broadband vouchers for their own network probably tells me the answer but some of you out there may know better ! I'm also puzzled as to why the mobile phone and mobile broadband coverage maps for the same network are so different.

I have managed to get a 3G connection and sent emails from the event campsite area using Orange. Paul reckons "3" is best.

Re: Mobile phone coverage at 6 days
There is phone coverage from all networks in most locations, but it is not guaranteed at every assembly area, Day 4 is the most patchy.
Around the campsite and the general Oban area there is 3G coverage on the 3 network, the only 3G mast in the area is Three but some other networks may share use of their transmitters.
The difference between phone coverage and broadband is that phones don't need 3G to work.
You can get a Three dongle including 1GB of bandwidth for about £20, then it's £10 per GB.
Or better still get a MiFi wireless transmitter and share it with up to 5 devices.

All the days but 4 have pretty good signal on most networks, as Paul says though don't hold your breath for the Day 4 assembly field unless you have o2 and an aerial bigger than a house.

But if it is, you can still go to Oban, just get yourself a dongle on the Three network.
