Re: Euromeeting
Jon - I reckon Finland is 2 hours ahead, so it's women at 1245 and men at 1310 BST.
In other words, the women are 20 minutes into their race now...

Unfortunately all three of the British women with GPS have dropped out of the leading bunch. Anne Edwards doesn't seem to have GPS.

Re: Euromeeting
Interesting to see how the mass-start format has been planned. For the women there are two different 2.2km loops (about 16 mins for the leaders), with one common control so each loop has two gaffles, making four combinations in total. Then it's a much bigger loop common to all.
Same concept for the men, but it's three gaffled loops making about 8km total, then a big common loop.

Re: Euromeeting
Great run by Cat Taylor pulling up from 17th after one loop to 6th at the finish.
Looks like the men decided it was a mass finish race as well as a mass start. Ralph, Rob, Hector and Oleg in 25th to 28th, all within 12 seconds after 97 minutes.

Re: Euromeeting
I think you can get away with a mass start if all, or almost all, the race is looped, but it seems a bit daft to have the loops at the beginning and then let all the runners bunch up again. Or perhaps they were thinking of it as a chasing start from the point that the loops end.
Farsta is definitely a good mass-start format - here's some of the maps from Aston to show how I used it there. http://reentrant.wordpress.com/2011/07/ ... ink-alike/

Well in this case about 50-60% of the distance was Farsta (looped), then the remainder was common. It seemed to work fine, in that the big pack was split into smaller clusters of runners in both races, and a leader had broken away from the rest by the time they got to the common section. Inge Damba managed to stay away, whereas Topi Anjala blew the first common-loop control and got caught by a pack of 4 chasing him down.
