Its being reported that a hungry and unfriendly 7 foot boa-constrictor has disappeared in Ipswich - from a house midway and only 200m from two of SuffOC's summer series venues. Fortunately the Piper's Vale event has come & gone while Landseer is being rested this year.
Makes a change from muntjac and adders.

A lot less dangerous than the buzzard in our backyard (Dess Woods):

Just out running, heard one call from the b......d and then, WHAM, hit on head. Nae messing from these birds up here - just in for the kill straight away - must have been to Paisley for the weekend!

When I wrote "competitor attacked by buzzard" as a possible risk on the Wharncliffe British Champs risk assessment, I wasn't really sure it could happen. But you've proved it does... Ouch!

So will we see signs on the way to start saying head protection compulsory?

Re: Animal encounter ?
At Dollar Hill race a few year back the course was re-routed to avoid aggressive nesting buzzards.
On the new route the field was instead attacked by the residents of a wasps nest.
At the prize giving there was a vote which saw a unanimous return to the buzzards

Re: Animal encounter ?
When we first moved to this house 14 years ago we thought we were very privileged to see buzzards wheeling around in the distance. Now if I open a window as often as not one flies up out of the garden or takes off from the roof -they do seem to be getting very close - do you think we should start getting worried
Interestingly in the last 2 years there are increasing reports of red kite sightings over The Worcestershire Beacon - I really wouldn't mind a few of those round the garden.

I'd be careful when sunbathing in the garden if I were you

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: Animal encounter ?
For those of you who night orienteer and are worried by animals there were two hedgehogs and a bat simultaneously in my garden late yesterday evening. I think the hedgehogs may be French - well the left evidence of eating several snails anyway.

We see quite a few red kites in the Lakes. Having spent the last few years encouraging dormice to nest around here, then red kites have been introduced and feed happily on the abundant supply of dormice.

Red kites are seen quite frequently over north Leeds since their re-introduction at Harewood a decade or so ago.
I don't know if there are any dormice to eat but I have seen them flying over Bryan's chip shop in Far Headingley a couple of times, and once over Naeem's Tandoori and the Nisa Local in Meanwood.

Frequently see red kites in the Chilterns. Many times have seen them low over the car park field at Hambleden

Tatty,
