Does anyone know if you can use a graphics tablet for cartography on OCAD10? If you can, does anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with it?

By tablet do you mean an iPad or similar? (Sorry, not up on the lingo). The developer of Catching Features has written an app that will work on an iPad and some people over here are testing it right now - I could give you his contact details if you wanted to have a go? Testers so far seem pretty happy.
I just realised that you probably don't have an iPad as OCAD isn't usually Mac compatible, but I'll leave the post there in case anyone else is interested.

As a pointing device then I'm sure it can be used, but I guess you're asking about whether the additional functionality in the tablet can be linked to functions within OCAD?
Nails is testing out some new equipment with OCAD 10. He's got a tablet PC and GPS with an objective pf trying to do "live cartography" while surveying in the forest.

No, it's a drawing tool - a pad and a pen to 'draw' on it.
Your second comment worries me, as I'm looking at upgrading to an iMac from my current PC. Does anyone know if you can use OCAD on a Mac?

Yes, I'm after knowing whether you can use the pen to draw in objects, lines, etc. instead of using the mouse. I'm suffering a bit with RSI and would like to explore alternatives and wondered if, using a pen, might be easier, quicker and more accurate than a mouse.

I last used a graphics tablet with OCAD4 around 15 years ago - I seem to remember it being a bit clunky and having lots of wires to get in the way. I do think though that hardware manufacturers in general have missed a trick in not developing something far more pen-like in competition to the mouse.

What are these 'wire' things you talk about?
Human evolution developed something in competition to the mouse, the 'finger' I think it's called

I use OCAD on a Mac - have done for several years. Either use BootCamp and run OCAD directly on the chip or use an emulator such as Parallels or VM Fusion (I've used both) - slightly slower but all Mac programmes are available without restarting computer.
Only problem is non-recognition of new hardware (eg printer) so problems getting printer drivers downloaded.

Yup BigJon got there first - got to use Bootcamp or Parallels to use OCAD on a Mac. I have no idea about iPads and stuff.

Many thanks for everyone's input. I have just found out that a colleague at work has a graphics tablet, so will give his a try to make sure it works before investing....
