Old British O maps to good homes
Hungarian veteran orienteer offers 160 British orienteering maps from several years between 1969 and 1978, including many British, Welsh and Scottish champs and JK's. Interested parties can pick them up at WMOC. Nominal cost (10-20 Euros) expected as proof of good will. Contact me for contact information.

Dear Mrs H.
I have only passed on the request and I totally agree with you. In fact, this guy, whom I know well, is a lovely person who is definitely not after money. His request for 10-20 Euros is a reflection of the cultural and experiential differences of life in a place like Hungary compared with Britain. I tried to convince him that any British person wanting the maps would be an enthusiast who would be genuinely interested in the maps, but his life experience told him otherwise. In these parts people go for anything if it is free and after the initial enthusiasm would, more often than not, discard them. In his mind, asking for money sorts people with a true enthusiasm for old maps from the freeloaders. Personally, I think if somebody writes to me saying that they really want the maps, but would not want to pay for them, I might be able to convince him to let them have them for nothing. Mind you, not having made that clear to start with I don't think anybody will look in again on this discussion, so he will probably be unsuccessful.

I would take them, but will not be at the event. Would be lovely to see some more 1970s maps, and the history of our sport together with the hard work of mappers is not a fire starter (twisted or otherwise).
Are we taking enough care of our mapping heritage?

I'm sorry Julianna - I didn't mean to sound quite so cynical - it must be my age

Don't suppose with this timeframe it will include classics

Hi Dave
My Somerhill map is still in use? I thought Nick would have re-drawn all the old Kent maps for the Night League by now. It should be terribly out of date by now. Are you coming to WMOC? It will be nice to see lots of old friends in the Mecsek, yourselves included. Love to Anita!

If you can organise someone to pick them up for you I'll have a go at my friend to forego the money.
