Unfortunately, the Tatenhill Maize Maze used for the last 2 years has had further development and is now an all-singing all-dancing farm adventure play centre which is open 24/7, 365/year (almost). This means we can't have exclusive access to the maze during the day, & the number of staff they would need on-site for insurance purposes makes an evening event financially un-viable
We will keep looking for alternative venues, and keep people updated if there's any good news. Fingers crossed...

Not so handy for you, but the maize maze across the road from Brereton Heath Country Park (a POTOC/MDOC area) is very good. And there's also one at Kinver Edge Farm Shop, which was used (pre-planting!) as the carpark for the last HOC event there.

Re: RIP Maize Maze Event
I know of several that are just out of reach on neighbouring clubs patches, and we have some smaller ones on Chasers soil, but nothing substantial enough to put on a 2 or 3 race event (unless something new pops up).
I keep encouraging the agricultural types in the club to grow one just for us, it may be our best bet

Re: RIP Maize Maze Event
Really sorry to hear it won't be back this year.
We did give the Kinver site some thought last year (plagarism being the best form of compliment), but decided it was not big enough.
Thanks for the innovation Stogetta and WCH, and let's hope it can return somewhere else.

Saxons have a Maize Maze in their fixture list for 3rd September - although since they give the venue as Rye, maybe it's just a corny joke.

Re: RIP Maize Maze Event
I know that several in LEI are looking at Wistow Maze (between Leicester and Market Harborough) probably on the afternoon/evening of 1st october- after the OD charity score and NOC winter league events.
If all goes well, details to follow in early August, Wistow is certainly of similar size and complexity to the NF maze, so should be a good day out!

Re: RIP Maize Maze Event
Having seen the draft map it could be the only B event LEIOC have in the near future
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Can't think of a humorous response, but the Organiser, who is at the Scottish 6 days here, confirms that the event is definitely on. The venue is on Romney Marsh, rather than in Rye - with a late afternoon round, then a 'night' second round. Further details on the Saxons website shortly.

Both SAX and BOF websites now show it as cancelled.

But at £9, it's a bit steep...

Re: RIP Maize Maze Event
Ah but I know that the B event has multiple races in it (having read the flyer) so the price per race becomes more realistic.
I'm sure LEIOC don't want to sting anyone
