Great video! I was showing my children and they thought it was 'cool'.
Sorry but I hadn't read the whole 5 pages of this thread so glad to hear the EMIT thing isn't definite! I'm a SI Card person myself.
Congratualtions to the Bid Team - this is great news for british orienteering.

The timer was stopped with the competitor cutting the light-gate, the runners were then fielded by someone after the finish line with an SI box which they then punched in the order of finishing, thus assigning the time the light-gate was cut to the correct SI card.
I'm not sure, but in Trondheim last year I don't remember seeing the punch-box after crossing the line on TV footage.
Allows you to push right to the line - time to implement it at the CSC for the Golden Boot - allow those of us with old('slower') a better chance on the run-in split?

You're not allowed to have a punching finish at WOC (or JWOC, or World Cups). The rules for individual races mandate "an electronic finish timing system... allowing the competitor to finish by running across the finish line", which in practice normally means light-gates (although I think some JWOCs have used those RFID chips you get at road races?). It also seems to be normal to have light-gates for (at least) the sprint start.
I'm certain that EMIT also allows for light-gates to be used.

A fantastic job for a helper, I think! Are jobs available for bagging, yet
[the person with the si box at the finish, I mean!]

While we're on the subject, what was the red carpet immediately before the finishing line? Assume it was not to clean the runners' shoes? Don't recall seeing it at the sprint finish?

The red carpet was very curious and an obvious trip hazard. H&SE would never allow it in Scotland.
