They just don't think these things through properly do they? I'm sure once it's pointed out to them how inconvenient it will be to run night-o events outside December and January they'll drop the idea though. I suppose at least when our weekday events have start times between 7pm and 8pm I won't have to fight the rush-hour traffic to get to them

This is one of the best changes I could ever see happening in the UK, brilliant, the sooner the better. Mornings are for stumbling to work, evenings are for everything else, make them lighter!
Who cares about night o, more evening summer-style events!

Agree with Andy, it wouldn't be so bad if they brought the clocks forward again at the end of Feb, at least then it would be symmetrical around Dec 21st. Waiting until March is a pain.
If night events start later I'd stand more chance of getting to them after work. It's a shame EUOC are starting half an hour earlier this winter.

Perhaps a small impact on Sunday/Saturday morning events in midwinter...

Start time windows need to be advanced an hour if you still want the same amount of (daylight) time to put out and take in controls.

I would welcome the proposed change, despite sometimes having to wait longer for a night-O start - and even that would have an advantage midweek due to the rush hour traffic having dispersed.

Away from O, this one of the few things government could do which would enhance the quality of life all round, more daylight for people, less fossil fuel burnt, simpler journeys to the continent....

We have moved our lifestyle into the evening. All that will happen is people will get later over time and then they'll want to change again. If you don't believe me just see how they live in Spain. I've run on the beach in March in pitch darkness at 8.00 with no sign of human activity anywhere. 1.00 in the morning everythings humming.

I am a morning person and I dislike the light not arriving until after 8.30 - personally I dont't want it to be 9.30.

And with regard to night O very late starts have no appeal to me.

Can't see the "normal working day" moving to start later because of a clock change.

And that's what guides a lot of things, including orienteering start times, even for those of us who do not work "normal" days.

I don't agree Ian although the change will be very slow. Our current working day scarcely reflects what it did before 100 years ago, and I believe the clock change will slowly move it further (as in Spain which as a western country oprates on CET).

With electricity enabling an any hours society has totally changed its day far from a natural rythm. I believe that middle society will steadily move further that way making the role of milkmen and others even more out of synch with the rest of society.

Our milkman delivers at about one o'clock in the morning so it wouldn't affect him!

That might explain why I've not seen one in our blighted corner of Urbana in over a decade.

More important than personal convenience (although I have to admit to a bias in favour on convenience grounds), RoSPA reckon that going over to summer and double summer time would be safer.
We don't have milk deliveries, but ours at school arrive before 4am, so daylight, or synching, simply isn't an issue there.
Of course, we could always have different time zones. One, say, in Scotland, another for the rest of us.
