Rather than wait for the moment when an unhappy 'van owning orienteer discovers that we appear to be discriminating against them, I thought I would get in first.
We are likely to have problems with large/heavy vehicles in many of the event car parks as well as the event campsite. I'm sure many of you will know that the west coast can be slightly damper than further east and we can't change this for August 2011.
We are already planning lots of hardcore, matting and digger work to ensure access to many of the fields, so we did not take these decisions lightly. At the moment there are only two of the areas that are likely to be able to cope with these vehicles, days 1 & 6.
I'm sure we will have problems defining what constitutes a "large/heavy" vehicle but we will attempt to draw up some guidelines and publish them on the website in the near future.
This is one of the reasons for swopping days 5 & 6 around, to allow heavier vehicles on the last day when people are likely to be packed up and heading home straight from the event.
We plan to offer a free shuttle bus service to events from the alternative commercial campsites for 'van campers.
There will be a marquee in the assembly area that can be used to get changed and leave kit in for those without a vehicle.
If the weather is very dry for the period before the event it may be that we will be able to relax the restrictions, but we need to plan for the worse.
We realise these decisions may put some people off attending the event, but hope that they will understand the reasons and be prepared to accept some inconvenience for the opportunity to orienteer in some fantastic areas.

Okay my little campervan and caravan friends I have great news. across the road from the event campsite is seaview caravan and camping site with hook up, hot showers and direct access to the beach
Paul - I'm assuming there will be a bus pick up as it is only 1 minute's walk from where I think the event camp site is (Highfield?)

I'm not certain, but I think that site was going to be part of the event campsite but pulled out recently.
I was't given that site to publicize as an option for camper vans, but I don't see any problem with bussing as it will be calling there anyway. We'll just have to sort out a way to identify those entitled to a free ticket.
