Just wanted to say, what a fabulous event this was: a great course, on a great area, using a great map, on a great day. Really couldn't have asked for more. Is definitely up there challenging for my most enjoyable race of the year, and there have been some good ones, so a big thank you LOC!
Just goes to underline what we already know, that, whatever we do about the criteria for event levels/categories, the fact is that real quality is beyond being defined in the rules/guidelines. This event would be (rightly) category C on the new scale - there will be very few cat A or B races which will provide as good as or better experience.

And unfortunately it probably has to remain as a category C event. Great for the clubs in Cumbria, but permissions will probably always restrict numbers allowed. Of course you could have a FCC final there with limited numbers..... but a BOC.... I don't think so.

Re: LOC race - Roanhead Dunes
It was my first go at a dunes area but I needn't have worried - in spite of my rubbish orienteering I managed to get round and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The map was so good I was able to re-locate relatively easily - many times! Mind you, the weather helped. Fantastic day - many thanks to those involved.

I know what you mean RJ, but I also think it's great that we have areas around the country like this - it's important that not all the superb terrain is saved for just the big events. A major part of the joy of this event was that it was low key and relaxed: added to the fun.RJ wrote:And unfortunately it probably has to remain as a category C event.
