6 years after JEC came to Britian it returns this weekend to Fife, Scotland.
9 Nations and 144 athletes battle it out over sprint (Friday afternoon) Relay (Saturday) and Long (Sunday) for the title of Junior European Cup Champion.
History: JEC is a non-IOF event, staunchly protected from IOF who sought to do away with the event and replace it wholly with the European Youth Champs (which clashes with JWOC). But thanks to 6 Nations (GBR included) JEC exists and is always late September/early October and used as a stepping stone for nations to expose their young athletes to a high-level (without IOF rules) international competition, useful in preparing their new 2011 squads for what is to come - next step JWOC 2011, Poland.
This year's competition is being run by a very galant band of volunteers from clubs within central Scotland. It may well not quite have the gloss of the Park World Tour, nor the funding, but it will doubly prove to the world that Scotland has a large band of enthusiastic volunteers who have the time, passion and energy to devote to hosting a world class event.
2015 - World Championships, Scotland - bring it on.

I wish you and all the athletes the best.
I am just a bit suprised and disappointed that the events are set up on Saturday such that competing at St Andrews AND spectating the relays at Faskally is not a realistic option.

JEC is about giving juniors international racing experience. Having a few local people in the finish field isn't going to do much compared to seeing the people in front of you with Norway, Denmark or Switzerland written on the back of their top...

it's a shame that the jec couldn't have gone relay-sprint-long, but this is the way it's got to be. (I did ask about getting more of a gap)

Re: Junior European Cup, Scotland
results are up at http://jec2010.co.uk
some excellent runs, gold for Kris Jones and a silver for Jamie Stevenson, good stuff!
no live results tomorrow but should be on Sunday (depends on internet connection at tentsmuir). Had some server issues with the live results today, hopefully not too disruptive to the service.

RouteGadgets are now available for the Sprint and Relays.
The Sprint one was held back due to the open event at St.Andrews today on the same map.
Loads of photographs on the JEC2010 website.
